I thought I was seeing things when I noticed my favourite Lupin (Tree/bush ) turned upside down almost .initial response was what the heck had I sprayed it with ? Then on close inspection I found it to be covered in a plague of sap suckers , aphids by the thousands . No other plants nearby infected but iam now on a war footing. You would think it too cold for these blighters to be breeding already !

Aldi had some nice terracotta pots today for €6 each ... Naturally I bought a few even if I only went in for Potatoes for lunch !! Oh ya and a small bag of compost too...

Today I sampled the soil in my garden more from curiosity than anything else . I think i am more Alkaline than neutral ??

I just love it when home collected seeds cooperate and are viable . The Geum seeds I collected last sept have sprouted and look as it they will make nice plants to nurture through the summer and next winter.

The Livingstone Daisies have also exceeded my expectations and are so healthy looking I just sit and admire them . Iam going to need more potting compost !!

I decided to plant out some of the Hydrangea cuttings after some thought. Maybe i should keep them potted up for longer but I still have a dozen or so in pots so nothing ventured nothing gained

Foxglove Tree

I was delighted to see an article on the Foxglove Tree  " Paulownia Tormentosa " in this months Irish Garden Mag. My experiment with these seeds now in year two is looking promising. The ones I planted out are all showing life and those in pots are well advanced . The ones in Mt Congreve were cut back to base and are all sprouting vigorous new growth. I think I will allow one or two to grow into tree s to see if they flower in a year or three.

orders now been taken ha ha thNks Gerry Daly !! Jacinta is ahead already .....

Every year I promise NOT to do so many window boxes and what happens ? almost every window sill still managed to get one. I dread going away in the summer in case my garden relief forgets to look after them . Anyhow jon done today

i spent 30 mins one day recently looking for ny isolated Hosta, under the Cheztnut tree. No luck so was very disappointed . Then today. " eureka " moment When I remembered I had lifted and divided it ,,,, but where had I re planted it. FOUND AT LAST almost like winning the Lotto , almost

the others are doing fine too

Jacinta and a Stowaway

Jacintas lilies are potting up nicely . I just noticed a stowaway too Jacinta and believe it to be a baby Peony from the same bed the Lilies came from ! Shall I leave it be ? Of course I will as it's much to small to be handled , ha ha . A second year Paulownia has also found it's way into this collection

Beans I hope

Found these in a disused poly tunnel last Jan and planted them two weeks ago . They certainly look healthy . I hope these are beans and not flowers emerging ?? seeds were bean shaped, shiny black and firm . I won't be eating them for a while yet !

Stopped off at woodies on way home for some advanced Tomato plants and found this in my trolley on way out ! Anyone grow these? I imagine they are tender enough but would welcome any first hand practical experience . Apologies if photo is upside down again

Today the Gladiolis and Liatris got planted into their summer flowering spots. I had these indoors since jan and with the week ahead to be warm I think they should be ok. That's if I can keep my two hens from scratching them up !!

the Cana is showing nice growth and I look forward to when I can plant it out again . This one grow to six foot . Bought in Mt Congreve last Spring

Amazing what a few days of nice warmth can do. My greenhouse is bursting at the seams with new growth. Astilbe, Liatris, Gladiolis, Geraniums, Marigolds, Lettuce and other cuttings and bits n bobs.

Good day to be alive everyone. Hope you all enjoyed the lovely weather. I was out all day, apart from a few cups of coffee and dinner of course.

These little beauts joined the party yesterday, I sat in the car and zoomed in once they settled. The Sparrows made themselves scarce.... Greenfinches and Chaffinch I believe

This was the forgotten shrub recently rediscovered under two larger shrubs . I hadn't seen it for years . Gave it a serious pruning and let nature do the rest . It's now showing signs of life but I've no idea what it may be! Nice new pink buds showing delicate new growth. just curious at this stage ..
