Tools quick peak about just now before dark. Honestly I don't know how the veggie are coping with cold then warm then wet conditions.... Potatoes not as advanced as this time last year . Runner beans barely hanging in there, lettuce struggling a little, peas fairly ok, Rhubard good , carrots and Parsnips still a little small I think For the length if time in ground . I live in hope.

Over the past two years ive taken to planting surplus and unwanted plants roadside , across from my house entrance front and back, the locals probably think I have too much time on my hands but who cares , I may well begin a local craze with roadside commonage gardening !! Took these at 930 pm and it's bloody cold outside too .

Another plant that I get to like more and more each year. Amazing how quickly they come on once over ground and easy to divide too !!

I took possession of my late neighbour and friend Larry's garden pump today. His grown up children asked me to remove it as the house is up for sale and wanted me to have it. I haven't decided upon a location for it yet but am thinking that it will look nice possible in a circular flower bed in front lawn. The Cup attached to the pump is solid iron and was made locally around 1900 in the local forge ( now a small but busy garage) just up the road from me.

Carrots and Parsnips were just begging for some TLC do this evening it was down on the hands and knees??. Got the Onions done too and then decided to mulch them as the weeds will be racing up from here on. Never mulched onion beds before but hey, why not and the leaf mulch was so nearby .

Nothing for it when you have pots of cuttings and other bits n bobs about . I started on one bed extension and ended up doing two ! The weather was ideal for working , sunshine and a good drying breeze . I counted 49 new plants, shrubs , perennials and bedding planted by 620pm this evening . No to keep the two Hens out for a week or two !!

Delighted that all these were from my own stock. Potentilla, Fushias, Geums, Hydrangeas Dahlias and French Marigolds.

I took the advice and my Cana is back in the ground again . It was magnificent last year but comming from the sheltered south coast to Tipperary colder climate I was concerned as to it's future

this Azalea was struggling in a bed of Alkaline soil so today it was dug up and placed in a nice big pot of Ericaceous compost . Will this go the trick ? wait and see but it looks a little lost in pot..

spotted this attempt at weaving a living willow hedge last week. ideas for my row of young 1st year wands that are now flying it

Cana Advice anyone ?

Advice

I purchased my first Cana last year during a visit to Mt Congreve. It was splendid all summer, 6 ft tall with magnificent huge red blooms. I dug it up before winter once it had died back a little potting it up for indoor storage. Now that it's growing vigorously iam undecided as to planting it directly into ground or a larger container for the summer . Think iam leaning towards container option ?

Wet day and kitchen table to myself do nothing for it only another tray of Livingstones pricked out. Dear God there appears to be at least another tray left yet !

I was about to ask has anyone ever grown Kniftopia , Red Hot Poker from seed as I failed last year... No need now as the tray shows life , too much life I think. These guys are tiny !

The Geum , also home grown are starting to grow at last though they don't look much like Geum's yet . Did I mix up my packets I wonder ??

The Livingstone Daisies were getting so crowded I started potting them on. Dear Lord there must be hundreds of them in the tray . I was an hour at this lot . I never grew these before from seed. It looks like I may have a few for the Tidy Towns Committee , trays that is !!!

some shots of the various slips and cuttings all thriving in this wet weather .. The second year Paulownia in the Pots have done much better than any I planted out year one . Lesson learned, Patience is a virtue have it if you can, seldom in a woman , never in a man ..

Looking forward to the first Allium to flower. I planted two dozen of these in groups and they all appear healthy.
