Cormlets aplenty

Cormlets aplenty

I just knew I wouldn't throw these out . I will find a spot in the veg garden to grow them on . Another two year project . Apparently many years ago saving these was a must as Gladioli were considered exotic and very expensive . Now they are cheap so nobody bothers much .

I managed to divide my favorite Lilies today and glad I did as they were very crowded. Should be a nice show next year now as I have them all around a circular bed . I also cut back the Canas and mulched them with a good ten inches of leaf mould. It will be interesting to see if they flower next year having been left out to overwinter .

Advice please in Dahlia and Gladioli storage

Today I lifted my favorite Pom Pom Dahlias and Also some Gladiolus nearby. Ive washed and dried them but now wonder should I break apart the two main Dahlia into smaller singles or leave until Spring?

The Glads have loads of small bulbs attached which I just love . Are these worth keeping as Iam a bit of a Seed gatherer anyhow. More of the glads seem to be doubled now so should I break these apart too ?

Barney Trouble

Barney eventually blew himself out. Power went at 1030 pm which I suppose was quite a nice time. Back this morning at 1130 so after a quick clean up and repairs to hen run alls well.

Coukd gave been worse , hope you all survived the night ok. All glass houses in one piece etc ?

Little Cody wasn't amused at the noisy wind so he deserved a treat today , fresh banana bread and custard !

photo upside down I know as I took it on iPhone in portrait mode not landscape !!

And no it's not from the drink! Storm Barney had struck south Tipperary and is having its way. Ive lost a Leylandi over the hen run and the chicks are traumatised. How are things wherever you are ? Lights flickering too . Lamp and candles on standby . No gardening today !

Jacinta and Chilli Advice

well I normally dump the plants each winter but how could you dump a plant with a dozen chilies still growing. I've taken Jacintas advice and decided to overwinter two plants. Repotted and fed today. Hope they appreciate the kindness . House plants for Christmas cheer now .

posting up some better photos of the plant I need an ID for. The flowers are small and about fingernail size . Leaves too and so soft to the touch . Lovely lemon smell from plant . I should have taken a photo of the bush/shrub too. It's about three feet X three in size .

Patio cleanup

Once you start in one area it's difficult to stop . The patio yard slabs I have considered filling the gaps  between them on a few occasions but never found a really suitable filler . So once a yeat they get a good scrape out with a long handled implement I made at home.

As I walked by Larrys yesterday I was assailed by a lovely lemony aroma . Then I noticed this flowering shrub outside Larrys wall . At least I think the aroma was coming from it. Larry was my neighbor that died last January so I've labeled the cutting so " larrys " for the time being .

a small soft leaf with yellow flowers. From a distance you would think Furze Bush !! The slips I took some days ago seem to be taking too . A name would be nice . Thanks all

The beans have sprouted well and it will be interesting  how they overwinter. Seedaholic beans which suggested winter sowing. Ive kept some in reserve! The winter onions I haven't done before either . Sure Iam five months ahead already ...

on a slight annoying note I have discovered my hens enjoy freshly planted winter Pansies, knew I was getting a nice new aroma from my boiled eggs lately.

The South Westeely wind overnight had done a wonderful job overnight so nothing for it only to get stuck in . The grass was beginning to yellow a little too. Lawnmower man can now get the final tidy up done when conditions are drier.

The only good thing about leaves is that they don't weigh heavy in the wheelbarrow. The leaf mould cage is now full once more .
