The Tulips are making ground every day . At least in the containers I should remember to lift them !

Bought a 25 KG bag of peanuts today . They increase in price every year though. I was feeling generous so happy dining little feathered friends . €39 a bag makes it considerably cheaper than buy in the 1 or 2 kg bags .

I see Charlie is making a return to the BBC with a new garden program soon . It's been 11 years since she last pottered about doing garden makeovers . Pity we don't have an Irish garden program anymore ?

And he's off

And he's off

Well sure I needed seed potatoes and what harm could two little Carex and two packets of Dahlia do ? Think I may well do separate Dahlia border and Gladioli Border this year ?

I seem to be gathering a grass collection too ha ha

This young root cutting has survived when the parent plant died. As it was one of my late mothers potted plants it would be nice to is it. I remember s large gangly plant with 2-3 almost tree like stalks and long pointed leaves at the top . She had it in an outdoor urn but since her death it was neglected . I managed to get one root cutting to t and this is it. Would it be a Yucca of sone sort?

Turning the sod

A new year begins

A new year begins

The ground looked inviting so I evidence to check it for " diggability " is that a new word ? Anyhow it was fine for digging so why not especially with some frosty nights to break it down . I do notice it gets a little more tiring each year... age I suppose but no hurry plenty little breaks and the first dig is always the most difficult . I don't seem to have as much space this year as some parts are already under occupancy and maybe I should have planned this years layout a little bit more . Robin joined me as I turned the sod and I think his belly is well full tonight .

on another note Iam looking forward to my new Bee Hive being ready during Feb. Have being meaning for years to get into bees as Dad and my uncles all were bee keepers . A brother living locally is too so he's " on call " for 2016. Bees and Flowers hopefully to compliment one another .

Think I will sow next years parsnips later in the year as they grow huge in my garden. One per dinner usually suffices !! A row of rose cuttings look healthy and will stay in place until at least mid 2017.

Dicks journal got me into the veg garden today . I enjoyed some gentle wandering about checking progress. Rhubard needed more mulch alright. The October sown beans seem unworried about the chilly spell. Should get an early crop here. The Garlic bed seems a bit stooped but no doubt will recover as Garlic is hardy and I love growing it.

Day of rest !

Day of rest !

Day of rest !

Went out for a small tidy up which turned into a , " take out the strimmer" just for a second ...... Well that turned out well . The H Hidcotes got a short back n sides . The Boston ivy was tamed too . Even Mary appeared at the door s it was a " strange day " for it. Well the sun was shining was my excuse .

The postman always knocks twice ! Wasn't that a scary film some years ago ? Well today I heard two knocks as the packages hit the floor . Thanks Rachel for your autographed copy and Lulu for the second one . Now if I was going to Johnstown I have a neatly packaged pressie for someone ....

As the dry compost potted Tulips had begun to peep up from the compost I decided to place them outdoors. Was hoping to wait till Jan 31 but here goes . Seven containers now out in the elements .

Another Carex for the dry border under the trees . I seem to amassing a number of grasses recently . Am wondering can I divide this into 2/3 plants now or wait until Spring? Nice colors on this one from Woodies.

After a win in the Garden magazine today I was told I had won a signed copy of Rachels book online through Facebook ! I thought this was a windup but no it's genuine alright and book is on the way. A second copy as I already purchased one before Christmas which as yet to be delivered .

Iam off to do the Lotto next and I heard today the last lotto winner was sold in Bansha Co Tipp.
