garden in late september

Hi all not long back from holidays in Bejing and Bangkok and boy did the weeds take advantage of my absence. Every spare moment is spent pulling weeds and trying to get the garden in order for winter, I refuse to be caught out like I was last year when the snow arrived. Have put up a few pics , just ignore the weeds.

Will catch up on all your journals later, got to go to town now Shaws sale on!!

Its too high to have been hit by the lawnmower.

Hi Rachel Norman and family, it was so good to see you all today and your lovely garden. We really enjoyed it . No matter how hard I looked I could not see a single weed !! caps off to you.

You have some lovely plants and it was so sad to see all the dead tree ferns. Is nt it soul destroyingto see that after all your hard work.. never mind onwards and upwards we live and learn.

Not to mention the amount of food all gooey and creamy !!! what can I say . A great day .

thank you

muscadet lillies

muscadet lillies

Good morning to all my garden friends. At last I am back. Have been out of action for so long and only able to use one arm I have spent all my time trying to keep the garden under control.

despite the fact that it took twenty times longer to do any thing we are now eating my home grown potatoes tomatoes peas beans ,salad,,carrots parsnips, cucumber .

 ,strawberries  peppers and chilli peppers.

I lost quite a lot of shrubs , my pride and joy my acacia has been cut .to the ground it took 2 days to cut it down.

I will put up some pics later.

Looking forward to seeing you all at Rachels garden.

disaster area

strelitzia

strelitzia

Hi all , its been a while since I have been on the site , but I have been so busy . I eventually made it out to the garden , and I nearly cried.. I have officially designated it as a disaster area. Things that survived last year have died and I am heartbroken over some of my losses.

the only thing that thrived are briars , they are everywhere  the only bit of joy was hellibore  nigra in full bloom and really cheered my heart. But  my stelitzia is in bloom at long last , it took nearly 2 years to germinate and at least 4 years to flower.

 will put up a pic

in the meantime  i will work away on the garden and hopefully I will talk again by this time next year..... cause Ihave so much to do in the  garden it will take me that long to find time  to log on to the site!!!!!!

Christmas greetings

21 December 2010 22:18:19

Wishing all my garden friends a happy and peaceful christmas.

It looks like  most of those coming for Christmas wont make it.!!! my grandchild and his Mum are stranded in Dublin airport waiting for a flight to Amsterdam  . spent the whole afternoon clearing the driveway and then did the neighbours, much to their delight and was rewarded with a large G and T .

We were meant to be at Tonys nephew wedding tomorrow, in Abbeyleix , but there is no way can we make it, drive is clear but we cannot get out of the Village.

It could be worse .... so all of you have a peaceful happy Christmas and hopefully your families will make it home.God bless you all

Mary

feed the birds

10 December 2010 21:23:12
Am sick and tired of snow and ice.... went down to greenhouse today and at least 4 inches of snow with 4 inches of solid ice underneath!!! Cannot see my acacia recovering again. Have just put up some pics of Tony feeding the birds, I have to say they were better fed than I was  lol
