Ladybird, hope it's a good one
Went out today to take a few photos and this was the first thing I saw--I hope it's not one of the nasty ones that I read somewhere have arrived here. I'll put some of the other photos in an album, 31 July.

Arrived back after a lovely few days in Ballyferriter, though I think the weather was hotter and drier here judging by how dry the containers have got. Still we got out and about and did some walking and it was really only this morning that it turned wet. Did some dead-heading and watering when I came in but anything else can wait until tomorrow.

Cut the grass and did lots of dead-heading and watering today as I'm off to Kerry for a few days tomorrow.

The Buddleia is living up to its name of Butterfly Bush. I managed to catch this today.

John this is the Stock that your photo reminded me of, but I could be all wrong!

I grew Carnations from seed last year and put two in containers and the rest in the ground. The two in containers are doing well but I only have one in the ground and it's very scraggy and sad looking and has no flowers. I don't know if it's slugs eating them or just that they don't like being overcrowded, which always happens in my garden I'm afraid. Any ideas?

I had a red Admiral on the Buddleia the other day but by the time I got the camera it was gone. Then I had a Tortoiseshell but when I opened the door it took off. But I did manage to get this Peacock which only flew off to the leaf of a Cornflower.

Worth waiting for
Grew this Carnation from seed last year but it only flowered this year. Lovely scent too. Going to put up an album with other photos of mid July.

I think this is a juvenile blue tit but I could be wrong. Hard to get a good view, the leaves and flowers keep getting in the way!

The garden has had to take a back seat for the last while as my sister is coming down from the North tomorrow so the house had to overhauled! Mind you I did also visit two open gardens, one in Monkstown and one in Lismore, both of which were lovely in different ways, and also paid a quick last minute visit to Mallow Garden Show where I only bought one plant even though they were all half price at that stage (very proud of myself about that!). Hopefully I'll find a space for it somewhere; it's a lovely pink Salvia, kind of two-tone.

Polyanthus for Fran
Just so you know that yours isn't completely crazy!

I wrote a w hile ago about a Gaura that changed colour but it seems it's not a Gaura at all. A friend of mine called in the other day and she said "Oh there's the Penstemon I gave you" so it must be a Penstemon and the Gaura must have died. Anyway I like it whatever it is!

Annuals flowering 1.7.10
At last the annuals grown from seed are starting to flower. The Petunias are way ahead but Sweet Pea, Begonia, Lobelia and others are also there. Well worth all the work earlier, though I know I only have a few compared to some of you!
