Amaryllis sprouting

At the beginning of the month I started off my indoor Amaryllis and at this stage they've all put up leaves, but this morning I see one of them has a bud showing. I'm particularly glad because this is one I've been feeding up for the last few years from an offset (if that's the correct term); it flowered two years ago and then skipped last year , so I'm delighted that it seems to be going to flower again this year.

Seed sowing --my way!

I admire how organised a lot of people are, making lists and ordering seeds and knowing how many plants they want and where they will all go. My "method" is much more random! I keep any seeds given free with magazines, then go through them in January and pick out any ones that say sow from Jan and get started. So today was the day, I picked out Penstemon and Verbascum and put them at each end of a seed tray, then the same with Petunia and Begonia--only to discover that I had forgotten to turn the tray and put them on top of each other!! That will be fun later on! Anyway I put Antirrhinum at the other end and put them all into the propagator and now await progress!

Then there were three....

Then there were three....

I just stepped out to see how bad the weather was--not quite as bad as I thought actually, extremely windy but not as wet as it seemed from inside-- and then I spotted that two pals had joined my first snowdrop.

Yes... a snowdrop!

Yes... a snowdrop!

Yes... a snowdrop!

I've been peering at the ground hopefully for the last few days and today, there it was. The first of many hopefully.

Hyacinth does a somersault!

Hyacinth does a somersault!

Hyacinth does a somersault!

I had my two Hyacinths on the mantelpiece, but today I suddenly noticed that there was only one there. When I went to investigate I discovered that it had over-balanced and landed on the fireplace, but amazingly the vase had landed right way up and not broken. I thought the Hyacinth was undamaged too, but later I found out that one of its two flowers had broken off. Still, could have been a lot worse.

Nice contrast

Nice contrast

Nice contrast

I moved a couple of house plants on to this table after I took down my little Christmas tree and I think they look nice together.
