veg

29 April 2009 21:50:02
just before it got too dark i ventured out across the wet lawn to check on the emerging veg seedlings. i was both happy and frustrated..the onions, potatoes and beans were up a fair bit but i couldn't see any sign of the carrots, cabbage, pumpkins,celery...i'm hoping it was because of the light that i couldn't see them but i don't think so..

lawn

29 April 2009 19:55:50
lawn is growing like nobody's business. its a rich dark green and seems healthy. last year i put D50 on it and it was great-got rid of all the weeds in it...these have resurrected themselves and invited their friends to spite me...

ties

29 April 2009 19:53:49
checked all trees and shrubs that were staked to make sure they were ok. some were bit tight. great to  have that done now.

daffodils

22 April 2009 23:38:53
still in full bloom.the scent is breathtaking.some buds are being eaten though...

lawn

22 April 2009 23:37:34

mowed the lawn for 2nd time this week after not mowing it all last week.it's in fairly good nick.there's quite a few cowslips in it but i don't mind them at all.another bit of colour

ps the camera is broken so no photos till we get a new one

manure

19 April 2009 23:10:33
finished spreading the manure last week so hopefully the rain we had will wash down some of the nutrients and let it work it's magic

potatoes

19 April 2009 23:07:59

after coming home from a week in killarney i noticed the 1st signs of the potatoes nyself anf blaithin sowed earlier in feb. the shoots are about 2inches high adn look very healthy

am really excited about what they'll deliver in the next few weeks

sowing veg

19 April 2009 23:05:23

19th aprul

sowed a lot of veg seed including carrots, parsnips, beetroot, celery, lettuce and radish. it was a beautiful day with blue skies all day long so it seemed ideal to sow the seed today.

i also planted some potatoes

manure

07 April 2009 20:11:39
started spreading the manure i got delivered. got a fair bit spread before the rain came down. it should help it wash in. i got to spread it around the trees at the back of the garden so i look forward to seeing if the summer will show any indication of the trees having been organically fertilised

daffodils

06 April 2009 23:06:55

most of the taller daffodils are either in bloom or on the verge. some of the scent is breathtaking especially the cheerfulness adn yellow cheerfulness

also today i noticed the snakehead fritillarias.they look quite happy where they are.

the yellow dog tooth violet is also looking very well. these were bought as a last minute purchase 2years ago and i didnt know if they would ever bloom but iam very pleased with them

06 April 2009 22:37:58

6th april got a load of cow's manure delivered by Sean this evening. will try to get around to spreading it later this week evne though the weather forecast is not the best

5th april sprayed the roses and the apple trees with capstan. the leaves are well out on the roses and are fairly well out on the apple trees
