course going well

30 September 2009 21:33:49

hi everyone

everything going well, started doing a landscape project, this is no lie, i sat in class yesturday totally confused, we had to measure our site and take all the mesaurements that was fine. no we have to put it on paper and thats where my problems start, its like you have all these figures and dont know what to do with them. doing brill in all the other classes even sicence is a doddle, i havent done it for years and i have no bother with the experiments and all the writing up of them.the teacher said he will help me as much as possible and the class apart from a few are a great bunch and said they will help me. if any of you know of a good book that might help, please tell me.

thats enough ranting for now. the garden is very neglected at the moment, dont have time, need to give all my house plants some T.L.C. bought a few last week and they need to be looked after. so hopefully an hour to morrow will do that.then loads of course work for the rest of it, i hope that i will be up to date and able to spend a few hours in the garden soon to do a bit of weeding.

hope you are all enjoying your garden.

good luck for now

happy gardening

another week ahead

27 September 2009 21:10:58

well thats it for now, must get back to it, just a small thing to do, tutor is taking up our learner report books to see that we are paying attention on our walks id ng plants then early to bed.

journal entries

25 September 2009 21:53:07

hi everyone, i have left comments on some of your journals and the ones that i havent i will do tomorrow eve.

i am sure you will all be busy doing clean ups tomorrow

projects golore

25 September 2009 21:04:05

hi everyone

course going great, swamped with projects at the moment. ejoying it all though got a few house plants the other day in athlantic homecare, it is acrooss the road from the school, very dangerous, got great bargains on the house plants will take pics over weekend and post them up. one of our projects is to design a space indoors with house plants which will go towards our mark at the end.

hope to get a bit done tomorrow, cleaned the house today. so plan to get lots of weeding done tomorrow and some study work tomorrow night, have to pick a border and photograh it every month up to march/april, describe  changes that that take place then name the plants  with their proper botanical names which i am slowly getting my head round. we go for walks and our tutor ids plants and we research them and write into a special journal that is inspected regularly by the tutor to see that we are taking notes as we go along and this is also towards our mark at the end of the year. i dont want to take photos of the weeds, so i will weed it and then photograph it. landscape gardening is the hardest part at the moment, we are learning how to measure and scale a site so that we can do a design for it, maths was never my strong point, pithagerus theroms come into it, thought i finished with him in leaving cert, never got the whole therom thing,we have five business documents and a personal letter to do in communicatiions for oct 12th, and experiments to write up for science, all goes towards end result, which i hope will be all distincts, thats what i am working for. it is worth 400 points which could go towards doing a fectac 6 or 7 in third level college if i want to go down that road,

hope i havent bored you all to tears. if anyone knows of a simple garden design book, please send me the name of it. i have alan tishmarshs book on it, must get it out and see if i can make sense of it.

i will be on site tomorrow nite again

hope the weather is good to us all tomorrow.

happy gardening

full steam ahead

15 September 2009 20:13:14

hi everyone

hope you are all well and happy, been so busy this week havent had time to go on line, it has been crazy preparing dinners the night before and doing housework and writting in stuff from our walks at school with the tutor. he brings us out and tells us the names of the plants in the botanical name. then we have to put them in a book that is part of our asessment for the end of the year, it is a fantastic course enjoying it so much, gardening will have to be done friday and saturdays now as i havent got time to do it. there is alot of theory in the course and alot of writting and report books to do for end of year. the highest mark you can get in this course is DISTINCTIVE 80% - 100%. thats my aim and i will work as hard as i can to achieve it.

well thats it now must go and do some homework

i will try to do a journal entry as often as i can to let you know how i am getting on.

thats it for now

two great days work

12 September 2009 22:37:40

hi everyone

got two great days work done, cleared all the sad looking annuals in the pots at the back. it looks alot better now.

today i took all the tender plants out of the borders and potted them and left them on the patio, fushias, pelgeraniums, begoinas. i will leave them outside untill there is a sign of frost, it will make it easier to get them in, in a hurry. have so much to do, have not planted any bulbs yet, should have that sorted by the end of the wk.

i also sprayed the cabbage plants, there alot of white cabbage butterflies about and there were signs of eggs on the plants so they got a good does of catapillar spray, the little brats are not getting my cabbag

if i dont post a comment on any of your sites, please dont be offended, i will use the weekends to catch up with you all.

i will go out and deadhead tomorrow, lots of dalias in need of deadheading and other stuff, i find it relaxing on a sunday, a nice and easy sunday.

well thats it for now

happy gardening

course begining

09 September 2009 22:22:22

hi everyone.

i have not done anything in the gardening side of things since saturday, course is starting properly tomorrow, went in for induction today, met a few that are doing the course on monday, tomorrow we get our timetable and subjects covered for the year. sooooooooooooo excited. like a big child. hope to have some news on the course tomorrow eve,

sorry i havent left many coments on journals, i will catch up with you all in the next couple of days, PROMISE. need to get things done in the garden, i just watered the tunnel stuff closed up that was it, trying to finish the attic also.

well thats it for now

happy gardening everyone.

p.s if anyone feels like a bit of work, i have plenty here for you all

did nothing

07 September 2009 20:29:55

hi everyone is it me or is it hard to get the energy to do anything lately, i seriously need energy, i did nothing much today, had intended to do the pots with bulbs,i needed to put more holes in the pots for plenty of drainage for the bulbs, discovered the drill had"nt charged so that ended that, lost all interest in doing anything, took a look around the garden and seen the mountain of stuff to be done and no energy to do it.

spotted the aster that alison gave me,broken so i brought the broken bit in and dipped it in rooting powder and stuck it in a pot, it has a small bit of root but not enough of root to establish itself. i staked it and left it in a sheltered spot to grow on big and strong.

attacked the attic yesturday after falling asleep for 3hrs, got alot sorted but not finished.

well thats it for now, this rain is so depressing and mood lowering, dave have you booked a holiday yet for us all(the garden.ie people)

happy gardening

wed and washed

05 September 2009 23:04:18

hi everyone, got some weeding done today in the tunnel and in the fruit patch, then rebecca and i cleaned some pots that my brother in law gave me, and some bits and pieces of my own, she earned her 5 euro credit for phone, i do this for both of them, if they get credit they have to earn it, christopher cleaned dads car so he earned his. it teaches them the value of money.

i plan to do some bulb planting monday, i have a room that needs cleaning and an attic that looks like a bomb hit it, i am registering for course on tuesday. while in town yesturday getting stuff together for grant i popped in to easons and picked up a copy of gardens illistrated,(only for the free pack of hollyhock seeds), dont actully like the magazine,i had a look through it, i still dont like it, find it boring compared to irish gardens and gardeners world they are the only to mags i buy.

had quick luck around garden today, PLENTY of weeds and things flattened with the rain, it will get done, if it starts to get much colder i will take the tender plants out of the borders and pot them and leave them in the already crowded patio.it will be easier to gather them in if a sudden frost comes, i will weed at same time, weed for one last time before winter, you can move stuff this month cant you? or is it next month,ie shrubs in wrong place etc. have loads to do in front garden to keep colour for as long as possible. will take photos when done, i have a todo list as long as both arms joined together, like you all i am sure, just need the weather to stay dry, not asking for much.

still high from the news

03 September 2009 22:20:25

hi everyone.

i have been extremely lazy this wk, loads to do and cant get around to doing it, plan to get stuff done tomorrow, there is so much paperwork applying for the grant, by god you earn it, and there is still a chance you may not get it,but its worth a try. have loads of bulbs and pots to plant up. i got 7 goldcrest today for 2.50 each, alot better than 5.99 in alot of places, the little purple cordylines are at a ridiculous price of 5.00. you could hold 2 pots in one hand.

hopefully i will get some work done tomorrow.

happy gardening
