hebe cut down to size
thank god i havent lost much, the photinia, mahonia charity which i couldnt remember planting, and hebes. cut them down to a butt, tried to pull so i will plant something in front of them and let them rot down naturally or until i have the strength to pull them. also lost a few lavenders but overall not bad.

love these lupins
i always think that hand weeding gets you up close and personal with plants. things that you might not see on a quick whip around especially if you are busy. while weeding today i saw this beautiful lupin almost ready to bloom.

one of the beds tackled
my god did i tackle the garden with a vengence, started at 12 and finish just after 6. if i am able to move tomorrow it will be a miracle. its not finished but alot got done, the four island beds, the big bed on the far side of the holy tree and started on the border along the drive. it looks good now it will be better when it is finished and the lawn is cut.
a glass of baileys on the cards for tonight for sure.

part of the L
i have from the front door over to the holly tree done. when i have rebeccas bed and the circle done, this area wil be finished
22 April 2011 14:12:02

next area to be tackled
this circle is next, tommorrow is going to be dry so this will be where i will be found all day tomorrow

area tackled yesturday
spent all afternoon and evening yesturday out in the front garden weeding, despite the weedblock and stone there were massive dandolines and buttercress in gaps all over, got a great patch done. had planned to do more today but the weather is not on my side today so it will be an easy day, as soon as i went to put clothes on the line it started to rain again. i have never seen as many dandolines between the lawn and the beds. if it improves later and i feel up to it i will do some more weeding if not it will be an evening for reading my garden mags before the next ones come.

lettuce
i had this planter in the tunnel for ages in its pack so i decided to plant up some lettuce, i am not making the same mistake as last year and go sowing an overload and it all goes to seed, sucessive sowing is the order of the day.
19 April 2011 23:20:28

patio planters
spent the morning planting up patio bags with lettuce, spring onions and beetroot. when i opened up the patio pots i thought they look smaller than what is on the pack, a case of it doesnt look exactly what it looks like on the tin, oh well they will do for now.
in the afternoon after getting back from an appointment i started potting up pelargoniums they are drying out too fast with just the compost, when i took them out of their old pots the roots were so dry, so i am potting them on with the perlite and compost. plus i need the pots they came out of for other stuff. kept at that until 7.30 then in with the washing and something to eat, its amazing how washing piles up after doing a big lot of washing yesturday there was more today.
sat down to watch fair city and then started airing clothes and i am at that since. last load in dryer for airing.
something strange happened to my facebook account, for some reason my email address didnt work when i tried to log in, yet i was getting emails from face book, so i had to start all over again. STRANGE.
tomorrow i hope to get more potted on, it will be worth it when it is done as my plants will have a better growth system. it is very relaxing type of day, before heading of to my last night of the course, it was a brilliant course and opened up my eyes to what is involved, totally differnt to my fetac course because all our notes are done for us in a booklet, very easy, will miss it now.
18 April 2011 23:27:21
spent the morning going in and out like a yo yo taking stuff out of the tunnel that can be hardened off just to make room for other stuff. while i was doing that i was also in and out of the house putting washing in and takin it out to the line.
after dinner i started potting on tomatoes and peppers, still have loads more to pot on, i am using a good mix of compost and perlite to get better drainage and plants. before i left for my course i covered all the plants i had brought out with fleese, had no intention of carrying them all back into the tunnel, i will take the fleese off during the day and put it over the at night for the next couple of days. i was really happy with what i got done,
tomorrow morning i will get some more done then the afternoon i have to go to town, but i will have the evening to do some more work.

potted up some spring colour

new cloches
spent the first part of the morning washing out big pots, then fixed a leaky hose. after dinner took some of the plants out of the tunnel to get at the potatoes, which needed to be earthed up. then hubby and i got stuck into doing the cloches. we got three of them made. one for the potatoes, one for the brassicas and one for turnips and rest of brassicas.
then we put back all the plants we took out of the tunnel and i put some spring pots just to add some colour. repoted my blueberries.
i am absolutely recked after all that, but delighted with the results.
tunnnel needs some work done, if i feel up to it tomorrow i will do it, if not it will get done during the week. some of the veg is ready to be hardened off, lettuce and beetroot and leeks and spring onions, need the space for other stuff.

i walked around the garden yesturday and checked on the photinia. i scratched the bark nearest the ground and i hit green so there may be hope yet for it.
while i was at the school garden this morning, we found three frogs under a budilea the kids caught one so that the teacher could take a photo, instead of doing gardening with the teacher they spent their time following the untill a shower of hailstones had us all running for shelter
10 April 2011 19:50:46

no room to move
this tunnel is definaltey packed to capacity now. it is not promised great outside this week so i will try to reorganise it so that i can get to the potatoes to earth them up and weed them.
also hope to get the cloches made for the outdoor plants. badly need to be done now.
10 April 2011 19:45:46

potatoes
over the last week or so the potatoes have come on leaps and bounds in the tunnel. i will have to sqeeze in to weed them now, it is so packed in there.
10 April 2011 19:43:29

09 April 2011 20:42:17

red tulips
took a quick a trip around the front garden to see what is in bloom, was delighted to see more tulips opened, some i actually forgot i had planted. the pots are great because i can take them away when the flowers die down.

bed 2, potatoes
hi everyone
spent yesturday getting bed two ready for potatoes yesturday, dug it over because it had been ages since it was first done, i then drilled it and had ready for today.
spent the morning on the course learning about accounting, it was the hardest to get my head around. it didnt help that i was absolutely recked from all the digging yesturday. when i got home i had a quick bite to eat and out to sow the potatoes.
there is two drills of roosters that my dad gave me and two drills of british queens, still have more to do( a list as long as my two arms.
hopefully monday i will get some work done, have an hour to do at the school garden and then home to get the bed for the carrots ready to sow later. there isnt enough hours in the day lately, if i worked all night i would still be streched.
