Cheering up!

31 August 2009 22:04:06
After a very wet morning the afternoon turned out lovely and I managed to get some deadheading done, with the help of my sister and brother-in-law! Well brother-in-law did some cutting back on the hedge! Oh I bought a lovely Pink carpet rose today!! Probably the one everyone else has bought too! But we need to cheer ourselves up in this weather!

Beating the weather!

28 August 2009 17:52:53

Despite a day of showers - HEAVY showers!- I managed to get my pyracantha 'Orange Glow' trimmed. I suppose it helped that it is just beside the shed door so I could pop in and out (like a Jack-in-the-box!) between the showers.

Well worth the effort though as it looks tidy and the berries, which are ripening fast, can be seen at their best. Strong gloves needed for the job as the thorns as lethal! Must try to get pic when berries fully ripe and before the birds get to them!

What a change!

dry morning so cut grass in orchard before work at 9am. Back for two garden visitors at 10.30 and rain just came as the garden tour finished and back to porch for cuppa!

Day went down hill weather wise but didnt have any time off work to garden anyway! Great to have got the grass cut

Apple trees and humming bees...!

26 August 2009 18:01:07

Not many butterflies or bees in garden today after the heavy rain last night and drizzle on and off today. Will have to content myself with the pictures that I put in my pic album last night! It was lovely to see so many insects enjoying the plants. Buddleja, sedum and that small teucrium seem to be their favourite plants.

An opportunity, folks, to do some indoor jobs that have been going on the long finger for a while!!

Been a great day here - and dont we appreciate it all the more when we dont have a great summer?

Between work periods I got out to the garden but didnt do so much work, The insects were having a great time and enjoying the sunshine too so I took the camera out to try to get some pictures. Didnt have much success but will try to put some up.

Something attempted.......!

24 August 2009 22:34:59
got a lot of deadheading and cutting back done in the garden today. Enough to let me see a couple of blooms ready to open on my helleborus Orientalis - is that a indication that summer is well and truly over? still, I love helleborus so will still enjoy the many suprises that the garden still has to offer. My generous neighbour gave me some Echinops from her garden today so have them potted up in pots until I decide where to plant them.

Sunny morn!

24 August 2009 13:50:54
A great morning for the garden and having the morning free I made the most of it! A short sharp shower on now just to ensure that I get to work on time!

Great Day!

22 August 2009 20:00:26
What a joy to have almost a whole day of sunshine! And I made the most of it! In between times at work I got quite a bit of tidying done in the garden and got the worst of the grass cut! Its a very satisfying feeling when you know you have achieved something. 'something attempted, something done, to gain a night's repose.....'

Cuttings planted!

20 August 2009 23:24:21
A better day - at least there was sunshine between showers. so after work got cuttings potted up and felt that at least I had got some gardening done even if only in the shed!! Grass badly in need of cutting but ground water-logged. Rachel, I envy you your dry free - draining soil. I have pools of water.!

Frustrated!

19 August 2009 22:58:24
So much needing attention in the garden but weather wet so didnt get a thing done today- not even cuttings planted up but determined to do that tomorrow in spite of weather!

Deadheading!

03 August 2009 13:26:15
A good morning so got into the garden and did some dead-heading and staking up. Very stormy here on this exposed site so a lot of plants suffering including heads blown off roses and branches broken. Frustrating but cant have great views without the wind!

Cuttings!

01 August 2009 20:12:34
Finally got myself out of the house and into the potting shed! Sowed some seeds I had harvested from herbacious lupins and also yellow bush lupin. then planted cuttings of escallonia Iveyii which, by the way was and still is a mass of white flowers well worth having! also did cuttings of Photinia 'Red Robin' and Potentilla 'princess' and Potentilla 'Day Dawn' both good shrubs to have.

Weather!

01 August 2009 10:50:39
Another wet morning! After the dreadful day we had yesterday, I had hoped for better things today but maybe it will improve later. From what I can see from the window some damage has been done to roses by the heavy rain and wind - a branch broken off 'Compassion' that was just covered with buds ready to open- shame but could be worse. Intend to get out there today regardless of weather and take some cuttings of shrubs. Also sow some lupin seeds that I have harvested. These jobs can be done in the shed. My nephew and his wife made me a grand bench on their last visit!
