Thankful!

Thankful!

Its not at all like June and yet I'm just thankful that the rain has held off and folk have been able to enjoy walking around the garden. Sadly, it is just too cold to sit and drink tea in the orchard as on previous years of Open Garden.

We had a great afternoon with visitors from near and far. Dublin, Laois, Sligo, Fermanagh and Belgium as well as nearer to hand. It was particularly lovely to have some Garden.iers! You know who you are - thank you so much for coming and for your generosity, very much appreciated and lovely to meet you "in the flesh"!

Just have to........

put up a journal after reading and seeing Hosta's!

I had been avoiding Garden.ie for some days now because I was telling myself I didnt have time as there was grass to cut, weeds to pull etc., etc.!!

But I really must tell you about our Garden Society meeting last night. Our speaker was John McNamara, a rose grower from Cork. What a lovely man and with such a love and passion for what he does! I have heard him speak several times and never tire of hearing what he has to say on the subject.

It was really so refreshing to listen to someone who loves their work, and is so generous with his time and expertise not to mention his roses, there was one for everyone in the audience!:))

Geoff Hamilton will soon find a place in my garden!!

Red Alert!

Closing my eyes to the weather!

Closing my eyes to the weather!

Watching Gardener's World tonight and looking at Monty's garden just served to remind me of how lovely mine looked just two days ago - but now its all dripping and drooping with the weight of rain and blown about with the breeze. Certainly gardens are at the mercy of the weather.

I have several of these bright red poppies in bloom and just nipped out in the rain to take this picture, and I had to smile because it just looked like I felt - not wanting to look at the weather!

Anyway, life must go on and the preparations are underway for the Open Garden next weekend. I spent a good while printing out posters this evening and tomorrow will get those up in various locations.   The forecast is saying "no settled weather in sight" so not encouraging:(

Anyway, the dates and times of opening are as follows:

Fri.15th, Sat.16th & Mon.18th, 2-6pm. At other times by appointment. Full details are on donegalgardentrail.com - Sea View Garden.

Garden.ie'ers please introduce yourselves if you can make it, will be great to see you!!
