Didnt bother with over wintering geraniums last year so have very few but this is one I am very glad to see in bloom, such a lovely shade of pink.

Cactus update

25 August 2009 17:51:21

Found the name for my cactus, all the years I have had it I have never bothered about the name! this club is making me take more of an interest in the names!

Well it is called Stapelia variegata (Star Flower) needs a minium temp of 11C.

Liga I stuck my nose a little closer to it today after you mentioning smell and I would say it has an unpleasent smell, but Rachel you wont notice unless you put your nose very close to it! and if you get as few flowers as I have you definitely wont notice!

Not sure?

24 August 2009 17:36:23

I had a cordyline in the garden for a good number of years and recently I got fed up with it and constantly having to remove the brown leaves, I have had a Taxus Baccata Fastigiata Aurea, or to me a Golden Yew, in a pot for past year and have been thinking of replacing the cordyline with it. Well today was the day, hubby off so a strong man on hand. I didnt think it would be so difficult and we didnt get all the root out so hope the rest will just rot away. However now that the new plant is in place I really miss the height of the cordyline! Some how the garden looks different and I'm just not sure that I have done the right thing, I dont dare to say this out loud after all the hard work!

Lovely surprise!

Cactus

Bud on cactus still not open this morning when having breakfast, beautiful morning so went in to the garden but was chased in by a big heavy shower about half an hour ago. Went in to the sunroom and there's my flower open, must have been the earlier sun! Made my day! I guess if it flowered every year I would take it for granted!

Have put up a few photos in album too.

Great Day!

22 August 2009 18:03:43

Really enjoyed the day in the garden, got a lot of work done that was well over due, mostly weeding, cutting back stuff that had finished and taking cuttings, my cold frame is nearly full I counted 20 pots! If they all grow I will have to make a new flower bed! I'm not that optimistic!

A very satisfying day and just in now before the rain arrives, has got very dark. Dinner now and then feet up babysitting.

Rachel this is the plant that I took your piece off. My son bought it for me at a school sale and I must have it 12 years still in the pottery mug! I have taken it out and taken pieces off and then repotted it. It has only flowered a few times over the years and now has a bud on it again. I'm sure it would do better if treated better! I dont bother much with house plants. I shall put up a photo when the flower opens. I really like the flower, unusual.

Photos up of Helen D and Rachels Garden

19 August 2009 14:19:46
I spent ages trying to put up my photos seemed to take for ever and could only do 2 at a time! I feel they dont do justice to both gardens. I have often seen the plant Polygonum in gardens but never seen it used so effectively as on the bank in Rachel the photo doesnt really do it justice. Was great meeting some of the garden.ie friends at both gardens

Had a great time with Olga, really enjoyed our visits to Helen Dillions Garden, will put up some photos and also our visit to Rachel. The size of her garden doesnt seem to daunt her and the amount of work she has done is amazing. We had a great visit and really enjoyed her welcome and also meeting Cooper and Joybells.

Hoping to take Ternie to visit this on 13th not sure of time yet. But if anyone is interested in meeting there I will post the time on this journal on 12th when I get back from England. Of course weather permitting, if we have time the same day we may go to Kilquade. On 14th we hope to visit Rachel's garden.
