Compost bin

Compost bin

Graham rotovated a new area to increase the veg patch, we need it to grow all these seedlings we have in the greenhouse (hopefully) unfortunately the rotovator broke before he could finish it, we got it in Lidil last year and it is a godsend hopefully we can get some new screws and fix it.

I bought a kiwi plant few weeks ago and since putting it in the glasshouse it has taken off , I am going to train it around the top of the egg chair I will put a pic on when it gets a bit bigger.

Last September I planted some Persicaria affins (Knotweed) at the edge of the drive I was worried the frost may have damaged it but it is fine I added some compost to it today to help it on its way.

We reached the bottom of the compost bin today,it is ready to have the other side emptied into it to start the process over again. We had a lot of compost this year hopefully we will see great results for our efforts lots of flowers and veg.

Work around the pond

pond today

pond today

I have spent the last few days sorting out the area around the pond and I am very pleased with the result. I have updated the pond album with new pics showing the pond as it is today. I made a terrace in the ditch behind the pond and am now trying to decide what I am going to plant on it ( suggestions welcome) We have lots of stones in the ground here in this part of the country so I decided  to make a little path of them under the terraced ditch, filled in the gaps in the stones with tiny gravel

good days work

good days work

We have planted all sorts of flower seeds and veg seeds in the glass house, we also planted tomato and strawberry plants, We love it I don't think the novelty will ever wear off :) Did some digging around the pond and put weed fabric and gravel down and planted some astilbe and Hosta should look nice in a few months, The trouble with this lovely weather is I want to stay out all day my back was killing me when I came in this evening but after a nice warm bath I am feeling much better and can't wait till tomorrow to get out there again.

Deer in the field

06 April 2010 09:08:29

I got up early this morning and found that the deer had come out of the wood into the field at the back of our house. We see them fairly often down there just grazing away. I have added a new album with some pics taken this morning and also some old ones. Apologies for the quality of some of the pics we zoom too much I fear.

Happy Easter
