Greetings for a new year

Greetings for a new year

I wish to express my sincere thanks to all of you on this site, and indeed this site too, for being here throughout the year listening to my ranting and raving. Also for constant encouragement and friendship. Happy New Year, everyone. See you all soon.

Enjoy!

Need to do a bit

It's so long since I have done any gardening - the longest stint of idleness so far. And boy, am I going to regret it when I eventually get to grips with all the brownies out there. Normally I do it bit by bit so it's less daunting. But not so this time round.

Still lots of summer flowers on the go, albeit sporadically. My Rose 'Tequila Sunrise' is throwing out a few more blooms now, but without the orange tinge to the edge of the petals. The Buzzard is becoming quite a regular visitor.

I feel so lucky

There were absolutely NO Goldfinches visiting my garden last winter. A few weeks ago I went off and bought some nyjer seed as they love it. I've been waiting and waiting, and waiting some more for their appearance. I knew it was probably going to be only a matter of time before they discovered the nyjer seed. And 'lo and behold, today they arrived.

I was told a few minutes ago that there was that guy again over in Santry park on his bike, with a basket containing 40 goldfinches to sell on the black market. So I'm blessed that I saw a couple for now. Hoping there will be lots more.

Bird Feeder

Picked up this little bird feeder in Dealz. The ones that have suction pads, and stick on to a window. They're great for getting a closer look at the smaller garden birds. I laughed yesterday when I spotted this massive pigeon trying to top up his food intake, and having to flap his wings constantly in order to remain balanced long enough to get the seed. And strangely enough, the feeder actually stayed in place.

Three Comets.

Three Comets.

The only truly safe way to keep our fish is paint them on a canvas. LOL

Cyclamen

Cyclamen

Cyclamen

My Cyclamen Coum have been in a state of suspended animation for the last few weeks. Tiny, tiny buds that I thought would NEVER open. But they've come through at last. Love them, and delighted to see that they are finally bulking up.

Hyacinths

My indoor Hyacinths have gone over a while now. So today it was time to dead head and think of planting them out the front. But look what I discovered. Another flower on its way.

Still blowing a gale!

Got out the other day to do a bit of judicial watering in the greenhouse, and to ventilate it. Surprised to see that my Alstroemeria 'Indian Summer' is still in flower. Most of the Pelargoniums that I took up are also showing buds, or flowers.

My window box out in the front (which is also filled with Pelargoniums) is still looking good, and I fed them only once this year. Maybe it will have blown away altogether today. Almost afraid to check. :)

A bit sick of being cooped up indoors now. We could do with a break in the weather.

Lost!

Lost my car keys yesterday and had to walk to the shop "Oh, no"! Well, occasionally I do leave the car at home, purely to have a nosey on peoples front gardens. This one had a whole little corner devoted to some lovely heathers that are in full flower at the moment. Hmmmm!  It's got me thinking about my own front garden for next year.

Two more 'lates'

I think the first photo is a Leucanthemum (from Terrishoos) that's only opening now. And the little poppy is out in the front garden, with my geranium 'Wargrave Pink' still in flower. But I forgot to photograph that.

I finally got myself one of Peter Wiseman's Fatsia 'Spider Web' today in Plant House (used to be Plantagen). Delighted to bits to have finally spotted it for sale. I think it'll be planted into a big planter so I can take it under cover should the weather turn really cold.

Lovely planted up chair in their garden centre, with moss and a selection of heathers. Very quirky. Must see if there are any skips around the area. :)  I'd love something like this for the garden.

Pampas Grass

I love the way Pampas grass looks as good now with all the horrible weather as when it first opened up weeks ago.

Clematis 'Bee's Jubilee' still flowering.
