A Meadow in the middle of town!!!!

A Meadow in the middle of town!!!!

Yesterday evening I went to the cinema in Westport to see 'The Guard' with a friend who had heard good reviews of it.  It turned out that we both didn't really like the film, but that's neither here nor there!!!!    When we parked the car in the carpark we came across a beautiful 'mini meadow' on a slope measuring approx 40ft x 30ft.  I didn't have my camera on me at the time, so went into town this morning to take some photos, because it really is an unexpected sight  to come across in a car park in the middle of town.   More photos in Album.

Photo showing fuschia.  I don't know the names of the two I've got, but because the middles are black/purple I refer to them as 'black'.  I over-wintered these in my lean-to greenhouse plus I also took cuttings.   I really like these! More photos to go in Album

Flaunting this Fuschia!!!

I just love this fuschia which is planted to the left of my BOX hedge.  Took a lot of cuttings yesterday.

We are late this year cutting our box hedge - should be done early June according to the books!   The cut side shows how nice a newly trimmed box hedge looks!!

Epiphyllum 'cooperi'

So far I have had 6 buds on this cacti - four have bloomed so far.  Unfortunately they really only last a good 24 hours, arriving in the evening - their perfume could be too powerful for some people.   The plant is in our bathroom upstairs and we have to close the door at night because of the scent!!!!!  Tried unsuccessfully last year to take leaf cuttings.  Will try again today.

On going saga could be solved!!!!

My friend got in touch with me last night and suggested that this plant is Knautia arvensis - have googled this and I'm sure now that the 'giant' is indeed Knautia arvensis.  My RHS book says it's of the scabious family and needs staking (certainly does).   Rachel the other plant I have in corner is the Centauria dealbata and I will put a photo in Album as it has one flower (like yours) on it plus a close up of the leaves of the Knautia.  Hosta, thanks for all your help, but I'm sure it's not Cephalaria gigantea as mine definitely has lilac/blue flowers.

Let there be light!

Let there be light!

Didn't have the nerve in the end to give this plant the Chelsea Chop so decided I'd cut back all the foliage that had escaped my homemade support framework.  At least now this border doesn't look such a mess and there's light for the other plants and in amongst all this I have annuals struggling through!!!   Come the Autumn though it'll have to be moved!!!

Clare & Greg in their new home

Clare & Greg in their new home

When I bought my 'house' from the car boot sale, Clara was so kind in sending me her little couple Clare & Greg sitting on a bench.  It has taken me ages to sort out where to sit them and weather wasn't helping either!!!  I hope you don't mind Clara but I have sat you and Greg on a bench (previously bought at car boot sale) and used your bench for a little Pixie I've had for years indoors but decided to put her in the garden as I thought she suited your bench.   I do so appreciate your generosity Clara.  I think both benches look ideal (dare I mention the word 'quirky') where I have placed them with the house in the raised border which I can see from my kitchen window.   My blue Primula 'capatica' has just started to bloom and lends itself to the whole scene!!!   Once again Clara THANK YOU!    More pictures in my 'benches album' when I load them.
