The soil iin the old allotment was poor to begin with so we spent a year and a half putting farm yard manure in,
Before we moved it must have been the most fertile corner in the country.
Now the new allotment looks to have very heavy soil that sticks together like putty.
It is very heavy to dig.
When it is wet it is very very wet and when it is dry it is very very dry.
We do not have the same access to old farm yard manure so I am trying to think of an in expencive way of improving the soil.
Has anyone any ideas?
Has anyone any experience of using sea weed?

Sadly our last Allotment closed after just one and a half years.
Having worked the soil to a state of preferction and planed the layout it was time to move.
We have spent the winter months moving.
The new allotment is nearer my home which is great but it is so windy.
Even on a nice day in other places that wind is blowing with force at the new allotment.
Any one got any ideas how to make the site more comfortable for me and my veg without going to to much expence?
Will sime things be mote suitable than others in the wind?
On the old allotment we had a nice comfortable place to sit, have a cup of tea and even a few strawberrys, I feer that on the new site we might just be blown away!
