Wishing all member a very Happy New Year and looking forward to seeing lots of photos of gardens during next year. 2013 has been a great year weather wise for visiting gardens and it was so nice to have shared a number of visit with the members on the site.

Looking forward to gardening in 2014 and have started to make plans already. Seeds ordered, dates in diary for talks and holiday booked for April 1st.

Miserable weather here in Waterford since lunch hour but I did get out for a little gardening this morning. At this time of year I want to be out getting ready for spring and with bulbs pushing up through the soil, hellebores and primulas starting to flower your spirits are lifted in someway.

Have a great New Year wherever you are this evening. I am hoping to be at the fireworks in town to mark the eleven hundred years of Waterford city.

Happy Christmas

Sowing for Spring.

Despite the mild weather here in Waterford the skies for the last two days have been very dull and grey and the days now seem very short. Yesterday, however the farmer who farms the land around our garden has started to prepar the fields for sowing crops and tractors were working from just after eight yesterday morning until after six last evening. As the machinery turned the sod the birds were decending on the fields to feed and kept following the tractor as it made its way along.

Paddy took a few photos of the birds and it sort of felt spring like. I suppose we are now in the last of the short days with only ten more days to the 21st.

I am picking an odd iris most days now and they bring a little colour into the house. Mock orange is in full bloom and am waiting for the witch hazels to start flowering, hopefully before Christmas.

Lets hope this mild weather will be with us for the rest of the winter so that we can get out and enjoy the garden.
