Mind Our Manors to- night on BBC 1 visits Ballywalter Park in Co Down, owned by Lord and Lady Dunleathe. We visited the gardens in 2012 and I would think that the programme would be of interest to members. Paddy has an album on the Irish Garden Plant Society's web page which is under the heading "gallery" if anyone is interest. Rushing to go to Limerick this morning.

Another Miserable Day

Hope everyone has survived the storms of Wednesday without to much damage. Waterord was hit quite badly and a huge number of trees have fallen down around the city. Mount Congreve has lost a number of mature trees which have caused a lot of damage and will not now be able to open in March due to the time it will take to clean-up. I am sure it will not be the only garden delayed  to open its gates this spring.

Angela Jupe, Bellfield, Birr, Co Offally is due to hold her snowdrop event this weekend. Let us hope that the weather improves as it is always so well attended and lots of small nurseries are there selling their treasurers. I am sure that we would love to see lots of photos and read journals of any members that are attending.

Altamount snowdrop week has had a very bad week with the weather, but the snowdrops are standing up to the battering from the wind and rain. It is best to see the snowdrops when the sun is out as the heat helps to open the flowers so maybe next week will be a little better for a visit. It might be adviseable to check if the gardens are open after Fran, Margaret and Teds disappointment last week-end.

Enjoy the week-end what ever you do.

Does anybody use iPad2 with this site?

We are using one with Google Chrome as the browser but when we go to  create an album or post photographs the "Select File" icon appears and then disappears quickly and even if quick enough to press on it, it doesn't respond.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Yesterday Paddy and myself visited Altamont for the snowdrop week. The morning was cold but it warmed up a little in the afternoon when the sun came out. The garden had a lot of visitors despite the weather and the guided tour was well supported.

The nursery as always was well stocked with beautiful hellebors and a good number of named snowdrops. Snowdrop species were also for sale. I bought a beautiful double yellow hellebore and Paddy got Galanthus 'Drumglass' and Galanthus 'Byfield Special'

The gardens were looking beautiful and the number of snowdrops are building up as the years go by. If you are thinking of visiting this year you will not be disappointed.

Peter,

We were chatting about this one the other day so here is a photograph to show you what it looks like.

It is an herbaceous perennial, about 4 feet tall, best in moist soil, sun or light shade. Common name: Goat's Rue.
