Mother's Day Gifts.

Mother's Day Gifts.

Mother's Day Gifts.

Today after our walk, Paddy and myself went to a local garden centre  Easter Island and treated my self to two plants. After seeing Mary Joe's beautiful Ribea "White Icicle" on FB last night I thought that it was time to re-introduce it back into the garden. I had a Crinodendron that was hammered in the second of the harsh winters and had nursed for two years, but it just lingered on, so I got Paddy to dig it out last summer. I hope the new one will thrive and fill the empty space that was left by it's demise.

Happy Mother's Day to all the mammies on the site and I hope you all have a great day.

Using iPad on site

A stretch of Magnolia campbellii at Mount Congreve

Does anybody else use an iPad when browsing and posting to this site?

I have used one for the past while and find it very annoying. I can browse and read but cannot post a journal from the iPad. On occasions I can manage to post a very short comment; anything longer than 5-6 words just seems to get lost.

Anybody with similar experience? Anybody found a solution? Any helpful suggestions?

From early this morninng  the sun has been shining here in Waterford and the day warmed up nicely. The snowdrops have almost finished  but the daffodils are looking amazing along with the primulas in their many colours. Had a nice day potting up spare plants for plant sales that are taking place over the next few months in aid of charities. Lots of springs plants are starting to grow in earnest now and it is great to see some colour again in the flower beds. I noticed the magnolia soulangeana is about to flower and this is at least two weeks ahead of normal. It is a lovely time of year and let hope the nice weather lasts for a while. Hope to visit Mount Usher next week as the scillas should be in flower along with lots of other bulbs. Mount Congreve opened today and is open again tomorrow if you are looking for a garden to visit. What ever you are doing for the rest of the weekend enjoy and lets hope Ireland wins this blasted match. LOL.

City Gardens for Charity.

Four gardens in Waterford will open their gates on 28th June next in aid of the local Alzheimer's Society. Abbey Garden, Ferrybank is gardened by Margaret Power who has opened her garden for many year in aid of local charities. Paula and Jim Heenan, will also be taking part and their beautiful garden runs down to the banks of the River Suir. The third garden, in Lismore Park, is owned by Breda Knox, who is a keen gardener and has managed to fit a lot of interesting plants into a small area. Paddy and myself are also taking part in the event.

How dissappointing that the sound failed on tonights programme just as the visit to the garden in Fisguard. I think there is a repeat on Sunday morning. After such a long winter was so looking forward to a new gardening programme.

Two lectures that maybe of interest to members on the site that are living  within a reasonable distance from Waterford.

5th March, 2014.

Anne McKeon from Barna Co. Galway, a garden designer will give a talk entitled 'Planning and Planting your Garden'. Anne also runs a garden design school and on a visit last year to Galway members of Waterford Garden Plant Society were lucky enough to visit Ann's beautiful garden.

2nd April, 2014.

The ever popular Deborah Begley from Co Limerick (Garden.ie. member) returns to the club with a new talk entitled 'Gardening with Sensational Plants'. A glimps into the weird and wonderful world of a plantaholic. Deborah will have plants for sale from her nursery, Terra Nova Plants.

Meetings take place at St Joseph and Benildus Parish Centre, Newtown, Waterford at eight o'clock. Large car park behind the hall. Members free and non- members five euro.

These are the last two talks until autumn but lots of Spring/ Summer garden visits over the next few months starting with a visit to Co. Wexford on 27th April taking in   Kilmurry Nursery, Gorey.
