Just a reminder that our garden will be open tomorrow to raise funds for our local branch of the Alzheimer's Society of Ireland.

This morning, Pat Whelan, a member of our local camera club who was on his way to his son's wedding, called into us and gave us these two photographs, each about 40cm X 30cm, which are of photographic competition standard. They are in a cardboard frame (masking) so ready for framing and hanging on someone's wall at home.

Some members of the camera club will be here tomorrow - not Pat, I imagine! - and they will raffle these photographs. Tickets will be on sale in the garden.

What a generous gesture from Pat!

The photographs are fabulous, by the way. The bridge in the photo is right beside our house - if you look at the photo, our house is just to the other side of the bridge at the right hand side as shown here.

June Rain.

June Rain.

It has been raining since lunchtime but just in the last few minutes it is lashing down. The garden needs rain after the last few weeks of sunny dry weather. This morning I picked a few flowers from the garden as I like to look at them close up and enjoy the scent in the house. I am really pleased with the poppy that arrived last year.

Waterford City Gardens Open for Charity

Four gardens in Waterford are opening their gates to the public on Saturday next, the 28th of June, from 2 to 6 p.m. in aid of Pinegrove Day-Care Centre which caters for those suffering with Alzheimer's Disease. All donations will be going to the centre.

I have just put up an album of three of the four gardens which will be open on the day - you will have seen plenty of photographs of my own garden already.

The photograph with this post has addresses and co-ordinates so you can find the locations on Google maps or enter them into your sat-navs to get you to them.

If you have any enquiries I would only be delighted to help in any way I can.

A  photo of a white watsonia which is flowering now in my White Garden. I also have a pink one which is doing well. Watsonia 'Mount Congreve Coral' is later to flower. Paddy brought a few of these to the IGPS plant sale last year and I know that a few members here bought some and was wondering how they are doing.

Jacinta was wondering this morning had she a gladiolus or a watsonia. Paddy took a few photos of Gladiolus 'The Bride' today. I have this plant for about twenty years and it was labelled 'June Lily' when I bought it at a plant sale. I have divided it over the years and give some away, but it did suffer a set-back after the bad winters. It seem to be recovering now and is looking very good this year.

On June 21st and 22nd The Howth and Sutton Horticultural Society are having a weekend of gardens open to the public in aid of St. Francis Hospice, Raheny. All details of the event can be had from the webside of the Society -  http://www.hshs.ie/

We visited the two gardens and the allotments a few weeks ago and would encourage anyone interested in gardening or veg growing to go along. I will put up an album of the gardens and hope they entice you to go.

Best wishes to all involved in the event.

A Wet June Day

A Wet June Day

A Wet June Day

A wet and miserable day in Waterford today after a beautiful sunny day yesterday. It has been raining all morning and a stong wind seems to be blowing for the last hour or so. Yesterday was the hottest day of the year so far in Waterford and last evening our local garden club had a most enjoyable visit to two gardens in the Woodstown area. It is amazing how weather in Ireland can change so quickly.

I don't think I will get out in the garden at all today and at this point I am under pressure to get the garden ready for the Charity Day at the end of the month. As the days  go on a feeling of panic sets in. We had a man from one of the free local newspapers call yesterday to take photos and this added to an already stressful suitation. Why do I get myself into these suitations?

With nothing do to this morning I have been going through Paddy's photos and have added a few photos of  hot colour flowers to my June album.

White Garden Two Years On

It is just over two years since I started work on my White Garden and this year plants seem to have bulked up to give a reasonable display. I still have to use annuals, like cosmus and ammi majus to fill the gaps. It is mainly a summer flower garden but I also have some primula and pulmonaria to start the display a little earlier. Would love to be able to afford the time and money to pack it with white tulips.
