During the week I heard that Monty Don, presenter of Gardeners World will be coming to Ireland for one of the many garden events taking place during the summer. If you are a fan be sure to get your ticket as soon as they are released for sale.

Anyone know when Gardeners Word is returning to BBC 2? I had read somewhere that it was due to start in early March.

Foxrock Garden Club Lecture To-night.

We are going to the Val Bourne's lecture tonight at the Foxrock Garden Club and maybe we will see some of our members there. At this time of the year what else could she be speaking about but SNOWDROPS. Looking forward to it as we were not able to go to Burton House on Sunday due to the terrible weather.

Val writes for The Telegraph and many UK magazines and also has written a number of gardening books. She has appeared on Gardener's World over the years. She has in the last few years moved house and now gardens in the Cotswolds. The lecture starts at eight and is being held near Foxrock Church, fee seven euro. The Alpine and Hardy Plant Society, Cork,  are hosting Val on Thursday 26th also at eight. (Not sure of admission fee here).

I removed my pleione bulbs from the fridge this morning and when I opened the tub, I was delighted to see that they had started into growth. Tiny little shoots were growing from the bulbs so it was time to pot them up. Looking forward to having them flower soon.

A Visit to The Scrubbery

With snowdrop season in full swing we have been on the snowdrop garden circuit and dropped in to The Scrubbery last weekend and found the snowdrops looking wonderful, the Scrub in absolutely fine feckle as, obviously, The Scrubber had been very busy over the winter and everything was in spick and span shape. Paths had been cleared, steps realigned and rocks moved about to show their better sides. All was fabulous and we had a wonderful time.

So, many thanks to Peter and Anna for a beautiful lunch and a very enjoyable afternoon.

The best pair of garden boots I have ever worn are these ones which I bought this winter. They keep your toes really warm and toasty and don't leave any wet in. They don't look very attractive, but comfort before fashion.

Two years ago we had to get the copper cylinder in the hot press replaced and the old one has been left in the garage ever since. On Monday last Paddy cut it in half and made two planters for me. They don't look much at the moment but I am hoping that they will turn verdigris, so next year they will look like the second photo. Well here's hoping.

Just saw this on FB about winter aconite for sale in Woodville. Looked at your profile and saw that you are from Galway.

The common snowdrop is flowering a little earlier than normal this year. With the heat from the sun today they were all open and looked lovely in the grass. It is so nice to see a good spread of the common snowdrop and I am pleased with the result from the work that we put in last spring. Hopefully they will seed away and increase in numbers over the coming years.
