Epimediums

Epimedium grandiflorum 'Lilafee'

Epimedium grandiflorum 'Lilafee'

One of the most beautiful plants of this time of year are the Epimediums, dainty little flowers hover above beautiful coloured leaves. We had a visit on Sunday last from Sally Gregson, who kindly brought us a new Epimedium wushanense, a very  long leaf form which grows to about two feet. Sally is speaking in Cork on Thursday evening to the Alpine/Hardy Plant Society and I am sure the members will be in for a treat with Sally's talk.

Have added a few extra photos to my April Album 2015.

Just a few photos of Paulownia tomentosa which has been in flower for the last week or so. A very hard flower to photo as it fades into the colour of the sky. The lovely blue skies were photos taken on Thursday and the rest were the grey skies of today. The rain seems to be passing and hopefully it will clear up for this evening. Declan, I am sure your plants will be flowering in the next few years.

Another glorious day with blue skies and warm sunshine. Everything in the garden at present is just jumping out of the ground, including the weeds. The magnolias that have been in flower for the last five /six weeks are now starting to drop their flowers but the yellow flowered ones are just starting to open. I love the flowers of the magnolias because they are so exotic and I look forward to them every year.

What a glorious day today. Wall to wall sunshine and not a cloud in the sky. We however, had the builders in to fix our roof and it will continue into next week. I would have loved to do a little bit of gardening but between the builders and other things I only got to bring out a few plants but hopefully I will be able to plant them tomorrow. It is amazing how so much has suddenly started to grow, everything is turning green. Beautiful time of year just makes you want to get out there.

A few photos of some tulips that are flowering in the garden today. The lovely sunny days of the last week are encouraging them to open up  and display their fantastic markings.

Corydalis solida 'George Baker'

Despite the terrible windy weather of the last week or so the garden is still endevouring to put on a display. The primulas are now flowering their socks off but the poor magnolias are taking a terrible battering from the wind that seem to be relentless. I have put up an album of plants that are flowering now and Jacinta was wondering how slow magnolias are to grow in one of her journals a few days ago, so I have put in a photo of Magnolia 'Leonard Messel' which is about ten years old and Magnolia 'Waterlily' which I planted to mark the wedding of my son David and his wife Mary five years ago.
