Tomatoes in Growbags
At last the greenhouse is showing some results - some Tomato plants I purchased in Dundrum (Co. Tipp) have really come on well. I planted them in pots set into growbags. Lets see if this system works!
Next step is to install a watering system so we can go on holidays.....

Last day of March 2010
Oh Dear! Here I am with 5 whole days off work that I can spend gardening and I've got a really bad cold and need to stay indoors! It is great to see the daffodils finally doing their wonderful job of cheering us up - and I'm amazed to see that the scillas and anenomes that I planted in the clover lawn last year actually survived the harsh winter and are giving a gentle blue haze over the area!
I'm still in the learnign phase of the greenhouse - we got a frost protection heater so at least things aren't actually freezing - but that's about all! The sweetpea I started in the house in January and transferred to the greenhouse when they were about two inches tall are now about 3 inchese tall but are the most miserable excuses for plants that I'v ever seen! I pinched out the tops as I read somewhere, but that didn't improve them one little bit. I fed them a bit with phostrogen but still no improvement. Guess I'll just have to go and buy some plants in the garden centre after all.
I also planted some dahlias in pots in the greenhouse about a month ago - should they be showing signs of life yet? The sunflowers started off with great gusto - about four of them came up but then they stopped too - maybe I need to increase the heat in the greenhouse - currently it keeps the temperature at about 10 degrees when there is frost.
Maybe if I wrap up warm I can sneak out in the garden tomorrow......
