On Slips and Cuttings

Free Border edging

Free Border edging

Well, flushed with success with the splitting of the Alchemilla plants into enough to cover the first bit of "woodland" I embarked on a mad spree of taking cuttings and dividing thing up. The first batch gave me 3 out of 6 cuttings, which I thought were from my mother's Escalonia that has come to me via my sisters garden - imagine my surprose when they flowered as pretty pale hardy fuscias!

I really must remember to label things ..... anyway there are a few more escallonia in progress now.

This border edging in the picture is completely from my propagation efforts - I'm really chuffed and can't wait to get some more on the go. I am definitely better at this than raising seeds! The Carex grasses were from a plant that the rabbits feated on, which I took pity on and stuck it in a pot out of Bunny reach - imagine my delight to get 11 plants from the one! I like this gardening for free!

August was fun!

Little Pond August 2010

Little Pond August 2010

I can't believe it is so long since I was on the web! Between the back (which is now fully recovered at last) and the laptop giving trouble I have been too lazy to go into the office and use the main computer. Wasn't August really a lovely month? Here is Laois we had lots of lovely days and the garden really loved it, rewarding me for my efforts with a lovely display of flowers. The Willow Fence has put on another spurt so I'll need to give it a tidy-up before too long. We did some work on the arches but haven't secured them well enough so they will have to be re-done. This project more than any other has really helped the garden to mature. I was lying in bed this morning trying to work out just how old the garden is.... We moved in to the house in september 2007 and the hard landscaping was mostly done in  May 2008. The first planting happened over June and July with the rabbits making their presence felt.....

Then in the summer of 2009 I started to see some results but was still constructing pergola and boardwalk.

So 2010 is the first year that most of my efforts have been "real" gardening - pruning, weeding, mulching etc.

So from Summer 2008 to Summer 2010 is only TWO years! I'm pleasantly surprised with the results.  The picture shows the little pond area still full of colour, although the Canna and Rodgersia still haven't flowered... there is always next yera!
