Brave little pansies

I really thought my pansies were finished last week - they looked so sad and flattened by the frost and snow. I was so delighted to go out this morning and see the transformation in the picture!

I also ventured round the garden expecting the worst, so I was quite encouraged to see how well most of the garden survived! Next year's strawberry plants are thriving - Ihave their new home constructed - raised beds made from old scaffolding planks a la "Gardeners World" video except that I made mine two planks high - but I have to get some topsoil to fill them up.

There are great healthy buds on the lime-tolerant Rhodendron but the buds on the Azalea are not looking so good. I'm wondering if it isn't fully hardy as it has never flowered since the flowers that were on it when I bought it faded (about 2 years ago courtesy of Lidl!) Maybe if I move it into the greenhouse it might fare better - there isn't any sign of resurrection on the spuds in the greenhouse but the lemon tree is looking good - no fruits or anything dramatic like that, but considering I was going to dump it in the spring because it looked dead, its current shrub-like growth is a bit of a miracle!

I think we were lucky here in Laois this time around - we had relatively little snow although we had some pretty scary frozen fog for a few days. Our snow has completely disappeared apart from the remains of a snowman down the road....

Here's hoping the next bout will be as kind to us again!

Oh Dear! Poor Spuds!

Sad Potatoes

Sad Potatoes

I ventured out to the greenhouse today when the snow stopped. What a disappointment! Despite the frost heater the potoatoes for Christmas are probably going to have to come from the supermarket after all!

The fuschias I moved in there are also looking pretty sad but I know they will come back in the spring.

I also have a few fresias in a pot that have been flowering away in the greenhouse too but I'm not sure they can survive.

However, at least the Lemon Tree is surviving and today I finally got around to planting some tulips in a planter that I'll keep in the greenhouse until the snow has gone!

While I was working in the greenhouse I spotted a cheeky little Wagtail hopping in to the shelter and having a nice little snack on the cats food!
