The first video shows two fabulous and original planters I was gifted recently by a good friend from garden.ie...

Nice Plants

Here are some nice plants in flower in the garden at the moment.

Amicia zygomeris - bought this in England on the same trip Fran spotted the lobelia he just journalled about. It came through the winter for me in the ground although I lost my cuttings in the greenhouse - go figure! A gorgeous plant but wait until you see how Helen Dillon grows it in my video of her garden to be published on 19th August.

Veratrum nigrum - A beautiful veratrum and much easier than other types. I've had this a good few years now and it flowers regularly and even tolerates some sun. Bought from a Lithuanian site.

Watsonia 'Mount Congreve Coral' - this is a first flowering of any watsonia in my garden and I have two types. This one came from Mary and Pady's Gracedieu and it is a real gem. Thank you, guys.

Propagating

Propagating

I did a spot of propagating of Persicaria affinis today - about 110 large pots.

So, for anyone who was wondering why I let it grow into the back of my borders when they visited this year, this is why. It gives me lots of propagation material.

It did feel good to rip and cut it out of the backs of the borders today though!

So soon I will be able to start my new project!

Major Day Out

Major Day Out

We had a major gardening day out yesterday, which started with a visit to Liga's and ended with Helen Dillon's.

Tina called to my place in the early morning and off we set, equipped with TomTom and boundless enthusiasm.

At Liga's we met Fran and soon we were walking around Liga's new polytunnel. The pelargoniums were breaktaking, each one more elegant than the last, and all grown and displayed to perfection! Whenever I see Liga's pelargoniums I feel inspired to try harder with mine!

I made a video of Liga's, which will be published on YouTube on Sunday (in case I forget to post the link here, you know where to look).

Then there was Helen Dillon's and the only thing I can say is that each time I visit the Dillon Garden I am once again envigorated. I loved the area to the left of the garden, newly planted with giant cannas (I mean giant), and all sorts of tropical goodies. But the rest was all just as fabulous! Needless to say a video will soon follow.

It is very wet here in Wexford. I've started digging and moving plants since we had our very last guest of the season yesterday - Jimi Blake. I know the rain is good for the garden but it is a bit miserable.

Here is video on what to do when slugs attack your hostas (quite apt with all this rain !)...
