Solstice & Christmas

Well I see that Dick has already raised the solstice question and the fact that it's a day later this year. Now that it is here hopefully we will soon be able to all cut our lawns like Declan!

So, here are two little videos. The first is a solstice message and the second is about the book shops that are now stocking my book, Journal of an Irish Garden.

I hope everyone will treat themselves to a copy of the newest Irish gardening book! And if you can't get to the book shops, you can buy it on line at Journal of an Irish Garden (Paperback) — Lulu IE or reserve a copy for collection at Johnstown by sending me a private message.

Thanks to Hazel for doing such a wonderful job, as usual, of organising our Johnstown get-together.

Happy Christmas to you all and see you in Johnstown on 9th January!

Johnstown

Hi folks,

I am just wondering if anyone would like to order a copy of my new book, Journal of an Irish Garden, for collection at Johnstown?

The date of our Johnstown get-togehter will be either 9th or 10th January (see Hazel's journal).

The price of the book is €9.99 (cheaper than in book stores or online (considering postage)).

I will be happy to sign books on the day and l will be especially delighted to sign the books of anyone who already has a copy.

Thank you to everyone for your wonderful support and for anyone who doesn't know about the book, please check out this video...

Journal of an Irish Garden is a collection of columnist and plantsperson Rachel D’s articles in the Irish Garden magazine from 2007 to 2015 (in addition to a number of previously unpublished pieces). It details her development from amateur gardener to owner of a garden open to the public.

This book is, in essence, a horticultural journey. It is an odyssey of discovery, knowledge and fulfilment, while taking the not-so-occasional foray into the realms of iffy dress-sense, hypothermia and muck. This journey contains elements that most gardeners will recognise from their own endeavours.

"We follow the author’s development as a gardener and that of her garden, Douentza, which is a joy to visit, full of well-grown unusual plants and one of the up-and-coming Irish gardens." —Helen Dillon, the Dillon Garden, Dublin

"What really makes the book for me is the clear and ever-present love of plants. From the mundane to the rare, the plant mix is eclectic and the book peppered with handy tips for growing them." —Jimi Blake, Hunting Brook Gardens, Blessington
