A New View

After months of tears and knashing of teeth, The New Look garden is starting to come together. The fence that ran in an S shape down the garden had to come down. It was rotted away!! The big Strawberry tree also had to come down as it was dead. Suddenly my haven was like a disaster zone. I cried buckets over it. I also took out - well as much as I could -likely to come back - my Gunnera. Now tiny bits have started to come through but at least it can be kept under control. I made a new flower bed where it used to be. I planted more than 70 Summer flowering bulbs and put in a shake and rake. It is starting to fly up now :-) I edged all the beds in red brick and put down red paving stones around where the trampoline is.

It is not pefect but it is coming along!!!!

Because your worth it!!

Because your worth it!!

Read an article in one of the Sunday papers yesterday about Cordylines.  It said to go to the top of the Cordyline and it will be spongy.  Feel your way down the trunk until it is not spongy anymore and cut it back to there. If you dont cut it back it will spread right down through the tree.  It  said that they are due to sprout in June.  It has to be worth a try.

Assuming it does sprout again - you cut it back to where it sprouted from.

Dont know if this is common knowledge to everyone else but it was news to me!!! Thought I wuuld share it in case anyone else wants to try it ;-)

So there I was this afternoon perched on the top of my ladder - big saw in hand.  All done now. They do look very strange but worth it if it works!!!

One of those plants tha you wonder all year why you have it - until it does this

for the first time in months - since we had to make some drastic changes to the back garden - I felt it looked ok and took my self off out to the main flower bed on the green outside my house.

The green had had it's first cut and looked beautiful apart from this bed which had been neglected since last year and was completely overgrown with grass, dandolines, thistles and buttercups - oh and lets not forget the sea of clover!!

I had planned to spend an hour a it - just to get it started. However, Becca (eldest daughter) came to help me and we spent the next 4 hours, hard at it, until it was all done.

Biggest problem then was to drag dozens of wheelbarrow loads of weeds accross the green to the skip that was in place for the grass cuttings. Worst part without a doubt - it's like having to put away the ironing!! Hate it

It looked amazing (in comparison to what it was - well it couldn't look any worse). Did plan to go back out with the camera but collapsed with a  G&T instead :-) Will take one later!!

In case you all think I am an insomniac puttin up a journal at this time of the night/morning - Husband was leaving for the airport at 3.45AM as he does every Monday morning but he couldn't find the jacket he had left his passport in. Yeah - You have to love him - Couldn't go back to sleep after he left!!

let at least some of them take!!! These are two of the forty odd Cosmos I grew from seed.  I transplanted these into little pots yesterday. This is where I usually run into trouble. So I will just have to wait and see. I have loads more nearly ready to transplant. If they all take I will have to set up a stall and sell them LOL

once Spring has sprung!! There is so much coming up and coming into bloom. Something new to look at everyday!

I had such a good time in Aldi today.  Bought 200 Summe flowering bulbs - 2 boxes of shake and rake - 1 cottage garden and 1 white garden. (have never tried these before - so I have no idea how they will turn out!) But here goes nothing!!! 100 bulbs planted and 1 of the shake and rake. Same again to do tomorrow. Bought a few of their flowering shrubs as well. Oh dont you just love the spring time!!!!

Giant Lilium "Debbie"

Cant wait to get these into the ground!!They grow about 8ft tall and have dozens of scented blooms on each stem. Thanks to my big sis Flitters. She already has hers in the ground so I had better get a move on.

**For all of flitters (Mary) friends.

In case you are wondering why she hasn't been on in the longest time, I just want to let you know that she had - what she classed as a simple fall and has done serious damage to her right arm. She has a spiral fracture running down the length of her humorous and another fracture in the shoulder where the humorous went up into the shoulder bone with the force of the fall and broke it. The latter is making progress but the humorous fracture is not healing at all at the moment. She is cracking up - excuse the pun!!! She has her right arm and shoulder in a brace so finds it difficut to type - well to do anything really!!

Birthday Surprise!!

Birthday Surprise!!

Birthday Surprise!!

My wonderful, thoughtful, kind clever (OK - is that enough) husband surprised me with a new Chiltren Arbour for my birthday,to replace the one that rotted away!!! All my friends on facebook have already been treated to photos - in all stages of construction!!! We spent Saturday putting it together.  When he saw the 110 screws he prayed for rain all day but it was not as bad as he thought!!! (We didn't even fall out). I love it!!! It looks wonderful. Will just have to treat myself to some new clematis now to grow up it!! Any other suggestions would be welcome :-)
