The Mystery Lilies

Now look at these - re: journal 13th August. And I have no idea where I got them from or how they ended up where they are :-)  Now surprises like these I can live with :-D

5 months later.......

Giant Lilium 'Debbie'

Giant Lilium 'Debbie'

I was so excited at the begining of April when my sister got me some Giant lilium "Debbie" for my birthday. 8 foot tall and 30 odd flowers the pack told me.  I put them down at the back wall of the "Shake and Rake" garden and never saw them again until I went looking for them :-( Only one came up :-( But hey - One is better than none right??

Today - at a GIANT 2ft tall :-O Yes 2ft !!! My one and only bloom opened. And to add insult to injury - some horrible creature had eaten a hole in one of the petals!!!

Needless to say , as soon as it is finished flowering, I will be digging it up (oh I found another bulbe a few weeks ago and have planted it up in a pot) then minding it like a baby to see if it does any better next year!!  I know Dave had several different types planted that didn't exactly do what it said on the tin. So they have been given a second chance - in case it was just a first year thing.

But so disappointing :-(

Am awaiting with anticipation

Am awaiting with anticipation

for these lilies to bloom. I adore my lilies, they are my ultimate favourite thing so I am perplexed as to what has happened here.  In a rather huge pot I had my Lilium Brushmarks which flowered first - earlier on in the season. Now - in the same pot I have these almost ready to bloom. I can;t wait. But here is the thing - I have no idea of what they are or how they ever managed to be sharing a pot!! I just can not figure it. They did not just appear there by themselves but at the same tiime there is no chance in hell that I planted two types with such different flowering times in the same pot.  Must be I had way to much wine when I planted them but I dont think so!

Cant wait though as they look to be white!! Ohhhhhhhh  ........

I had almost given up hope..

Morning Glory Flower-

Morning Glory Flower-

but today - despite the horrible weather we have been having - my Morning Glory had it's first bloom.I was so excited that I nearly knocked it off in my rush for my camera. I was given this by my borther John several months ago. " would you like a Morning Glory" says he. You bet!! He then produced this tiny green thing- like a blade of grass. I didn't fancy it's chances - at all!!! But it is now a big strong plant twining it's way around one of the corner planters of my gazebo.  I was consoling myself that I had managed to get it to this stage - a minor miracle - but when the first bloom appeared today - I was beside myself!! There are loads of buds on it - Please - please - up there- Can we have some sun and some heat!!!

I should have waited another hour or two before I took the photo - then it would have been fully open but I was afraid I would miss it :-)

Word of warning......

Hydrangea Aspera Villosa

Hydrangea Aspera Villosa

For several years now, everytime I went to my brothers house in Clontarf I could always be found hanging over the 8ft wall- standing on top of a wheelbarrow or what ever I could find - looking into his neighbour (Irene) house drooling over her Hydrangea Aspera  Villosa. I am totally in love with it and have been on at my brother for years to ask Irene for a cutting. Yesterday I found one in Piercestown Garden Centre. I am so thrilled :-D

Was worth getting a soaking for when planting !!!

Lilies

Lilies

I have put up some photos of some of this years lilies. I say some not all as I had several tabs of garden.ie open to put them up as it takes an age waiting to put up the next 5. Usually this works, but today some of them failed to load :-( I have to go back through them later and see what is missing.

The good news is that I have six more different  ones yet to open. I LOVE the lily season :-)

So what do you do with two dead cordylines....

These lilies are just opening in my front garden this morning. They are about 5-6ft tall with unusual colouring. I have no name ??? But they are really stunning :-)
