Soil & some planting

Well the top soil is in and I have planted about 100 bulbs, primulas, hostas, ferns etc. and some plants which would not be traditionally shade garden plants.  This has led unto making another small bed opposite where my Viburnum plicatum mariesii and viburnum popcorn are, we hope to put stone around it also and I will plant my annuals which I am going to grow from seed around them.

New Shade Area

New Shade Area

I have been planning on starting my new shade garden for the last six months but never had time!  All that digging was too daunting.  My husband suggested it to be a slightly raised garden and then when we got offered some trailor loads of stone from friends.   With all the stone sitting on our front driveway we both got started arranging the stone (mainly thanks to hubby who has the muscle!!) and then skimming off the grass.  The area still has to be dug and then we are going to get some top soil to raise the area behind the stone slightly.  Can't wait to start planting and then eventually cover the area with bark also.    As you can see from the picture (more in Oct album) my son helped with his excavator!
