Verbascum Snow Maiden

Verbascum Snow Maiden

Rachel gave me two Verbascum Snow Maiden plants last year which she grew from seed.  I was very impressed with their flowers this year and they flowered for ages and withstood all the wind.     They are great architectural plants if you have the space!

Rachel did you grow them from collected seed or bought seed?  I have collected seed this year even though they are supposed to self seed.  If anyone would like some and are going to Mount Venus on 25th or the Bay Garden in Camolin on 26th for the Hen Party I will collect some for you or send me your address and I will post it.  Never grown them from seed so there is always a first time.

P.S.  They don't flower until the second year!

At a risk of being shot for talking of Spring!  I was goggling Deborahs Dahlia Nonette and came across this lovely picture.  Wouldn't I love to be able to recreate it!

Saw this in a garden at Bloom this year and loved the pink flowers.  It is hard to come by but I  came across it in Woodies in Carlow last week.  I love the silver leaves.

New Circle

New Circle

Now before anyone asks - yes it is raining in Wexford and this was taken last week when we had a taste of summer.

In the centre of our back garden we have our septic pump etc.  It is very ugly and I have been trying unsuccessfully to disguise it with pots.  I decided to put a small bed around the concrete circle and fill it with box hedges grown from cuttings.  Next year as they are so small I will grow annuals in between, but I am hoping to grow them tall enough to cover the concrete and green box in the centre.  We put some cobblelock bricks around this to keep the circle neat!  Our grass area is very uneven so so is the circle but sure were in the country and we don't want it too exact!  Also I couldn't make the circle too big in case we ever had a problem!

My Rhodochiton!!

My Rhodochiton!!

Well it is partly Rachel's as she grew it from seed, I had no joy with mine from seed so Rachel kindly gave me one.

I am really pleased with it now, I have kept it indoors as the wind here would blow it to shreds.
