Verbena Bonariensis

Verbena Bonariensis

One of my 'Must Have' plants in the borders.  It is great for reseeding and fits in well in most places throughout a border.  It is easily pulled if you don't want it.

I was looking at some You Tube Gardening programmes yesterday and came across a Great Dixter programme from 1996 with Christopher Lloyd and it said that this Verbena was orginally brought into the Exotic Garden in Great Dixter and then became popular after that.

Woops that last journal was a bit too long!!  Anyway here is a photo of the Plant with new growth - two new leaves.  It does not take a lot to make me happy!!

Bill kindly gave me a Tetrapanax last Christmas and I put it in the garage over the winter, during the cold spell I brought it indoors but unfortunately it was too late and it died!!!

Bill very kindly then gave me another one which he said needed some TLC (it looked great to me!)  I planted it out in July.  I was really pleased with its growth and it did really well.  I repotted it during the seconded week of October (not taking any chances!) and brought it indoors onto our bright landing.  It looked amazing with a table lamp shining through its big leaves (should have taken a photo)......

....then one by one the leaves started getting big black spots and then withering and dying, starting with the biggest, then the next etc.  I was bewildered & upset!!  Finally it was down to two leaves and all of a sudden it stabilised and did not lose the last two leaves.  Hooray!!!

My echium looked lovely this morning too with the frost on it.  This was grown from seed last year, overwintered in a pot in the garage and I planted it out this year.  It is about 4.5 feet high and stunning.  It is too big to bring in, I really hope it survives the winter, it is in a fairly sheltered spot.

I love it!

Woke up to a very cold crisp frost and heavy fog.  These Sedum looked lovely glistening with the frost on them.

Beautiful and sunny now.

Breezy here today

Hi everyone, unfortunately (or fortunately) due to busy work schedule I have not been writing here much but have been reading most of the journals.  Not much done in the garden, other than planting 140 red & purple Lidl Bulbs in my new bed near front door.

Was in Quigleys Point Donegal for long weekend and just wanted to show you this wonderful sunrise from our friends house.

PS Am missing chatting to you all : (
