Lidl Conifers Thursday 27th Jan.

Lidl are selling large conifers next week for €5.  I fancy 5 or 7 of one kind to add to the garden.

They are

Chamaecyparis Columnaris

Thuja Brabant and

Thuja Smaragd

I think the one I want is Thuja Smaragd.  Is it the one on the right hand side of the photo, you may have to look at the Lidl website for a better picture.

Any fews on the nicest looking or or the above not great!!  I know at the end of the day it is down to individual taste!

Zantedeschia Schwarzwalder

Zantedeschia Schwarzwalder

Bought one of these bulb/pot sets in Lidl last night as my little treat to myself!  I have never grown one before and know nothing about it.  When I opened it the instructions were rubbish or should I say non existent and I don't even know which way up to plant the bulb!!!

The bulb is quite nobbly on one side and fairly smooth/rounded on the other.  I am presuming the nobbly bit faces upwards!!

Anyone stand to correct me - they would be more than welcome.

Statice

Statice

One of the annuals I grew last year (without knowing, as they were in a Wild Flower seed mix) was Statice.  They were really good and gave great colour, height and longevity to my annuals bed.  They were no trouble, threw the seeds in the ground and hey bisto.  I was lucky to have pinks, purples, yellows and white and now I have them in a vase on the window sill for the winter.

I must get a packet for this year!!

My mini Sago Palm

My mini Sago Palm

Jacinta here is the mini one I bought years ago in a garden centre in England for next to nothing!  It never really did much, each time it grew a palm it died.  At last I have success with two palms and I have it on a window sill which gets morning sun.  I only water it ever couple of weeks.

Dead as a Dodo

Dead as a Dodo

This looks more like some strange giant spider than my beautiful echium that was featured on my 10th November journal!  Sorry I did not make an effort and bring it into the garage or cover it as fellow gardeners recommended!!

Stipa Calamagrostis Question

Stipa Calamagrostis Question

Stipa Calamagrostis Question

This is my Stipa Calamagrostis still looking well after all the battering it got with the snow.  It was actually laid flat to the ground with the 14inches of snow we got and now look at!

Question:-  Should I cut it back to the ground and let it reshoot???? and if yes - when?

Ladybirds Christmas Cactus

Hi Ladybird (Ruth), I was delighted before Christmas when the Christmas Cactus you gave me at our Christmas 2009 get together started to flower.  It is a stunning colour and looks well here against the background of snow.  No it is not snowing here!!! I took this before Christmas when I did not have to time to write a journal.

Thank you Rachel (& Jacinta!)

Thank you Rachel (& Jacinta!)

This is an Oncidium Orchid which Rachel gave me last year.  I thought it would never flower but now that it has it is beautiful and well worth the wait, great to have such a lovely colour in January.  Thank you Rachel (& Jacinta who got them for Rachel when reduced!)

Green Aeonium

Rachel, this is the Green Aeonium you gave me last year.  It had one rosette in May and it now has about 13.  It is very lush green and healthy.  I love it!  Rachel do you know the name of it or how big it grows?

Spring 2009

Spring 2009

......the evenings stretching??  I can definately see the days getting longer even if only by a minute!

Happy New Year everyone, it has been so long since I chatted to you all.  Hope you all had a lovely Christmas.  We did!!  Santa came and good food was enjoyed by all.  I stayed with my family for Christmas and then they came and stayed with us for the New Year.

I went out to garden on New Year's Day for the first time in ages.  It was a gorgeous mild day and I did lots of weeding and cutting back. I am now looking forward to Spring and my Spring Bulbs......
