Taking bets

Yes or No?

Yes or No?

I put the Meconopsis Lingholm Poppy head in water this morning.  Will it bloom for me or not????

No rude comments please!

I thought I did the right thing!

I thought I did the right thing!

I thought I did the right thing!

Yesterday not taking any chances I decided to stake the Cynara Cardunculus and Meconopsis Linghom so that they would not be blown over.  There was a big poppy head on the Meconopsis waiting to open.  I put a bamboo stick on either side of it and put light garden wire around it

This morning, this was the result, I would have been better leaving it alone!

New Bed

New Bed

New Bed

Yesterday (against better judgement!) I planted up my new bed with what I had!  The wind was blowing from hehind the hedge so it was somewhat sheltered.

I put in 3 Euryops pectinatus, my new Euphorbia polychroma sonnegold, phormium black adder, Gracedieu Lass's Iris Germanica, Primula Val Horncastle x 3, Ligularia Britt Marie Crawford x 3, 2 x Tiarella Cordifolia, 3 Cynara Cardunculus, my Eryngium Eburneum and my Meconopsis Lingholm and the grass Chionochloa Rubra.  There are also 2 Morello Cherry Trees in this bed and 2 Cornus Kousa, Norman Hadden and Bodnant.

You wouldn't think there was anything in it looking at the photo.

All are now been battered by all the wind and the rain, I don't mind the rain but

I HATE THE WIND

On my hobby horse again, this is one of the best value plants in the garden, I did lose alot during the really cold winters but I am building up my stock again through cuttings.  I love the colour in this picture with the new growth on the Buxus and the leaves of the Crocosmia Lucifer.  The other thing is it flowers for about 9 months of the year!

See more photos in my new album (at last!)

New Bed out the Back

New Bed out the Back

New Bed out the Back

Here is the new bed which we started about 6 weeks ago by outlining the area, then spraying with roundup and now topping off with topsoil, not near finnished yet.

I would have liked to have the time (& energy) to dig the bed but I don't so I will just have to dig the areas which I plant to start off.  There are already two cherry trees and two Cornus Kousas planted here.  Hopefully I have not made a big mistake by not digging.  Time will tell!

Treated myself to a visit to Hungtinbrook!

Huntingbrook

Huntingbrook

It was my birthday on Saturday and the best thing about birthdays is that you get to do whatever you want!!!!

My 3 kids and hubby were all doing different things so I took myself off to Jimi Blakes free talk and tour of Shady plants.

Beforehand I went to Johnstown GC and bought a few things for a new bed I am planning including Phormium Black Adder and some Cardoons and Asparagus for the Veg garden.

Then off to Huntingbrook for a great talk by Jimi Blake and a tour of his Shade garden.  Also his tulip combination of Negrita and Princess Irene was stunning.  I have fallen in love with Erythroniums, Jimi had both Harvington Snow Goose and Pagoda and have to get some!  I bought Eryngium Eburneum and a Meconopsis Lingholm from his plant sales.

Then I went to visit his sister June's garden and garden centre next door where I bought Euphorbia Sun Gold and a red grass as seen in Jimi's garden!  June's tulips stole the show in her garden and she showed me all the frost damage to here Arisaemas and Podophyllum's which was upsetting as she has so many.

The home for a Chinese Takeaway with the family who all decided to come home and join me.

New Hen Run

Here is the new Hen Run which hubby built for our 3 hens and then he went and got 2 more yesterday.  Our original 3 our all laying now and it is fantastic to have fresh eggs every day.  Best thing we ever did!

Shame on me..

Tulip Praestans

Tulip Praestans

.. for not putting up a journal in so long.  It was my busy season in work but hopefully am over the worst!  These tulips give great colour, they are multi stemmed which I got in Aldi in 2009.  Unfortunately all the wind and rain are giving them a good bashing!
