Invited myself to Rachels today

Verbascum 'Safron Towers'

Verbascum 'Safron Towers'

Yesterday I asked Rachel could I call to her for a cuppa and of course she said yes.  Unfortunately I ran short of time (after 2 hours), the time just flew by and the cuppa only took 10 mins of it!

Well, what can I say I was so glad I went, her garden is looking amazing, so so full of colour and so full of plants, she even admitted when I said 'I think you have too many plants' (we were standing over a bed that was fully fully packed) and she said 'yes I think I have'!  Now of course nobody could ever have too many plants!  It was just a manner of speech!

I loved her Verbascum 'Saffron Towers', it is looking stunning at the moment and the flowers are not even out.  The leaves are massive and perfect.

Rachel has a few more stunners that I have to add to my Wish List.

Rachel will never be done in her garden, she has a huge amount of work for ever more but loves it all!

I could write for a few pages but you will just have to see it yourself!

Thanks Rachel

Sum and Substance

Sum and Substance

After touring your garden on Friday I fell in love with your Hosta 'Sum and Substance'!   I was coming back from Enniscorthy on Saturday and had to call into small garden centre!  The first thing I saw was your Hosta and guess what I just had enough money in the purse to purchase!

Thanks Fran!

I made it at long last!

I made it at long last!

I made it at long last!

After many appointments been broken by "both" parties I finally made it to see Fran's garden and what a garden it is and what weather we had!  I don't need to tell many of you how great it is as you have already seen it but I did get to see the latest bed (mound) first! And again it looks so mature already!

The area Fran created over the last 18 months looks as if it has been there for years as it matured so well.  Fran has great planting combinations and lots of colour and I love the fact that he has 3 gardens.

The garden is a credit to you, and Maria of course who gives lots of good advice.

Thanks a mil for the plants, tea and muffin and the great company.

I'll be back .........

Libertia Grandiflora

I love this Libertia as the flowers are so white, I bought one plant 4 years ago and have split it a few times and each have bulked up nicely now.  Would recommend it!

This has definately been its best year as it was not knocked back by a very cold winter.

Aquilegia 'Silver Queen'

I love this Aquilegia now that it has had a few summers under its belt!  Very cheery.

I remember when I got it in 2008 from Springmount and planted in my new bed and the next day there was an awful wind which blew the flowers off, I could have cried but am really pleased with it now!

Has anyone every heard of this plant?

My mum told me last week that when she left her cat into the Cattery in Rathfarnham the lady there had a fabulous shrub and it was in full bloom and absolutely beautiful and was told it was Hebe Huckle Anna and when I goggled it I think it is Hebe Hulkeana.

It seems to be a native of the South Island in New Zealand.  Did not seee it for sale on any Irish sites.

Anyway 3 days after my mum saw it I was at my Mother in Laws nursing home in Sandymount and saw a fabulous shrub and went over to it, never saw it before in my life, didn't notice it before!  It looked like a Sedum from the leaf!  It so happened that I was meeting my mum there to give her back her dog!!  She immediately went over to the shrub and said that it is the same one as she was telling me about that she had seen in Rathfarnham.

Could not get a piece of the root as it was Hebe like so took a Branch off (sorry I mean it fell into my hand).  When I got home I cut it into 3 pieces and stuck them in a pot.  They still look alive so hope they root!

Alison (Drumanagh) gave me Aquilegia Nora Barlow but these flowers look very green, I know they have not opened fully but am curious does anyone think they are Nora Barlow - I could have got my seeds mixed up!

It is in my May album if you want to see it better!

I was given 3 or 4 plants of this last year at one of the get togethers (could have been Liga?), I though it was Knautia Macedonica but it is not.  I am sure you will all know what it is and I will go - of course it is!!!!!

They are all very healthy plants - more photos in my May album!

Asphodeline lutea

I have had this in the garden for the last 3 years and I did not know what it was, I thought it was a type of Kniphofia.  But I found out yesterday through Fran's journal and Bruno's ID that it is Asphodeline lutea!

Well for those of you who said 'Yes' ...

Meconopsis Lingholm

Meconopsis Lingholm

.... You were right.  My meconopsis Lingholm, that I bought from Jimi Blake at Hungtingbrook last week and broke off during the storm has opened in the Vase.  It is more purple than blue than I expected but that could be to do with the indoor light but I love it!
