Japanese and St Fiachra’s Gardens

The Japanese Garden on the grounds of The Irish National Stud & Gardens is one of the oldest and finest Japanese Gardens in Europe. Designed by Tassa (Saburo) Eida, it was constructed between 1906-1910. It structurally portrays the embodiment of the spirit and its journey through human existence. St.Fiachras’ Garden was designed by Prof. Martin Hallinan in 1999,and it depicts the natural Irish landscape complete with monastic cells and even a fairy trail (Irish fairies of course). Both gardens are inextricably linked by their use of two main elements; rock and water. A new addition is our ‘Garden of Meditation’. This is a dry landscape garden designed to quieten the mind and pause to appreciate life.
