ageing raspberries

fons jaspers asked 15 years ago

In one of your answers about raspberries you say the plants should be replaced after 15 years. D.G.Hessayon (‘Fruit Expert’) says that would be 8 years. Can there be such avariance?

Experts differ, raspberries die!

Raspberries can last much longer that 15 years, or less than 8. It all depends on how well they are cropping. If they are producing good strong new canes and a good crop, leave them be, if not, replace.

There is no hard and fast rule.
