Boxwood Blight

Christine Williams asked 14 years ago

Third August in a row that 10 yr old boxwood hedge 40ft X 10ft with diamonds in between has got blight or the new boxwood disease. Last year, cut it back, feed it, gave it Fertalive. Recovered a good bit just in time for the August onslaught. (No potatoes in garden btw.) Back again like clockwork! Each year a bit worse. Very disappointed! Any suggestions or advice on what to plant instead of it.

Sounds like box blight, which is increasingly common following three wet summers to 2009 and a fair amount of rain since early July.

There is no fungicidal treatment but try feeding with a complete liquid feed such as Miracle grow as hedges that are short of nutrients can be worse affected. The complete feeds contain trace elements which can help.

Dry weather and good ari circulation help.
