i live 1km from the atlantic ocean and wonder would a boxwood hedge grow here ?our site is prone to wind quite a bit ,can this be grown from slips ?

Box is reasonably resistant to wind exposure but not one of the front-line plants for this purpose. One kilometre from the sea should be okay but the extent of exposure can depend on elevation too.
If any plants in nearby gardens are wind-shaped, it would not be a good choice.
