Chilli Peppers

Ray Dunford asked 14 years ago

I planted chilli peppers in various locations (eg. some in the glasshouse bed, others in pots in the glasshouse, some pots next to the window in the office, etc). All those plants in the pots are approx 45cms high and are flowering. Unfortunately, the flowers on the plants next to the window in the office are starting to fall off. Why is this do you think? I don’t think I’m overwatering them. Also, why are the plants that are sown in the glasshouse bed only 30 cms high and only starting to show a few buds now?

CHilli plants in the soil are not getting the same growth conditions … it may be cooler in the soil or the soil is  not as rich as the pots, or the soil is not open enough to allow enough air to reach the roots.

The flowers on chilli fall off if not pollinated and it is a good idea to stir the plants each day to release pollen. The indoor atmosphere in the office may also be somewhat dry compared to the air of the greenhouse.
