chosing a hedge

Gwen Clarke asked 15 years ago

We built a new house 3 years ago. And while I decided at the time to go for an informal hedge of mixed shrubs. I find now that it is not working. I would like a hedge as a backgound to a shrub border. Would like to plant escalonia – but from what I have read iut will not grow too well in kildare. Am now thinking of cotoneaster. Would appreciate your advice.Poppy

A great hedge is beech, holly, laurel or yew.

Escallonia is a good seaside hedge.
