Clover in Lawn

Michael Mulleady asked 13 years ago

I have a large lawn (1.25 acres) with quite a lot of clover. I would like to fertillize the lawn before I spray Herbicide on it. What is the best fertillizer for this time of year, which will promote the grass, but not the clover? What is the best way to kill the clover?

The presence of clover is a sign of low fertility and free-draining soil.

Feeding the grass a bit more with lawn fertiliser will reduce clover or at least compete with it.

On a big area, use a high-nitrogen farm fertliizer or sulphate of ammonia at 20 to 30gm per square metre.

Spray the clover with a grassland weedkiller that contains the active ingredient mecoprop.
