Cutting a Mimosa

rosemary sharpe asked 16 years ago

My Mimosa is aprox 15 feet high and almost straight because I trained it that way. But it is now blocking light to other tree. Without staking it should grow away from this tree and stay lower because it is closer to South sun. Can I cut the Mimosa to aprox 3-4 feet without killing it and would it be likely to sprout lower branches.
Thanks Gerry!

Yes, mimosa will sprout again if cut hard back, you can do that in April, but flowering will be affected until it re-grows.
