cutting hornbeam

I have a hornbeam hedge abouot 6 ft tall that i set last year. Is it ok to trim at this time of the year? or is there a certain time to trim it back

Hornbeam, like most deciduous hedges, is best clipped in late July or August, when growth for the year is finished and it wll stay neat for the longest period.

But you can do a bit of shaping of a new hedge at any time.
