Griselenia Dead from Frost

Patrick O\’Sullivan asked 14 years ago

Hi Gerry, My griselenia hedge of 35 years has died. Last winter’s frost burned it. Ant hope of it regenerating this year? Recently I have cut back one of them to see will green shoots sprout. but nothing as yet. If I were to have to replace it is there some similar plant/shrub that would provide similar shelter and privacy but not suffer from the frost damage? Regards Patrick

All you can do is to wait and see how it goes, pruning back to new shoots if these appear, and cutting down the hedge if not. You do not have to dig out roots … you can plant new hedging between the old roots.

You could use holly, laurel or yew, all of which are hardy.
