Griselinia hedging

Tony Fitzgibbon asked 14 years ago

I planted some Griselinia at the start of december just before the bad frost. now most of the trees have no leaves and some twigs are soft. are these now dead or should i wait another month to see if any new growth comes again?

There is a fair chance that the young trees are dead. Wait and see if you like and replace as necessary.

But remember that a hard frost like that can come along every 10 to 20 years and you could well lose your whole hedge in a hard frost. Griselinia is reliably hardy only in mild areas.

So if you are in a cold part of Limerick, away from the coast, you might be better with something like holly.
