While vegetables can be grown in containers, there are limitations of root space, depth of soil, availability of nutrients and water.

Half soil and half compost is a better mix, and keep up watering and feeding assiduaously. Ordinary cucumber is a greenhouse plant, and courgettes need lots of root space to grow vigorously.
