Insect indentification?

Trish Foye asked 14 years ago
Can you please identify this insect. I live in Lanzarote, soil is very hard, virtually no water retention. This insect does not appear above surface, what solution is required. Eats root veg?

These are the larvae of cock chafer beetle, also called May bugs. It is a big beetle that flies about at dusk. It eats roots of grass mostly and trees and shrubs.

It is generally not a big problem, but there is an eelworm-based natural control, produced by Nemasys.
