Japanese azaleas

Pat Meehan asked 15 years ago

I put 5 japanese azaleas in different parts of the garden about two years ago and they are not doing well at all. The did flower earlier in the year but poorly. Do I need to feed them?

They need acid soil for a start. Then they need good light but a little shade for part of the day. They often struggle in competition with bigger shrubs and if the soil is dry. Theya lso hate wet soil, and drainage must be good.

So mulch well to keep moisture in and water in a dry spell.
